Hi All
I recently bought a panasonic recorder and seemed to work fine until i played the dvd on my pc.the problem is the recording showed a green line down the left side of the video.panasonic told me it had to do with the pc resolution ,tried changing it,and tried 2 other pcs and the same thing. So i returned the unit and got a magnavox next same thing but it shows a blue line.i have searched this and other forums and cant seem to find anything on this problem.

i have tried rca cables -s video-just the cable for the tv-different settings-a different tv in a different room, all end up the same.my old sanyo recorder didnt have this problem and the only thing different on the new models is that they are progressive scan which i have turned to off.would component cables and this feature on solve this,im stuck dont know what else to try and hate to return another unit if thats not the problem.could i have got two bad ones from different manufacturers?

sorry for the long post tried to include everything in it ,if anyone could help or give me anything else to try it would be appreciated,or need more info.oh i also tried a different brand of dvd also..

great forum ive learned alot of things on here...
Thanks Sand

Have you tried the recorded disk on any other standalone players (or another PC)?

I assume that the recordings are being made from cable or antenna.
Is the problem apparent when recording from a separate video source (VCR , DVD player).

Yes my cable,i just tried disconnecting the cable and hooked up an external DVD to the front input and recording outcome is the same way. They look ok on the tv just if i try to play them in a computer that line shows. Is it ok if i upload a clip of it for you to see exactly what im talking about or isnt that allowed on here?

If you have a link to the file, it's ok.

I see it, but I can't tell what it is.
The fact that it's not present on the TV screen is because of the inherent over-scan that cuts the picture down.
I have a Panasonic recorder and I just made a quick recording to verify that it's not present when played on the PC.

Unless you have two bad recorders, it must be picking it up from something nearby, maybe a dimmer switch running or the PC fan.
If it was me I would kill everything electrical at the breaker box, except the recorder and the only thing connected to it the antenna, then make a short recording.

If it it's some kind of electrical noise and it's not not generated by the recorders, then either it's being transmitted over the house wiring or from the antenna.
If the antenna is disconnected and a video fed in from a DVD player shows the problem, then I figure it isn't the antenna(cable) causing it.

If the cable is eliminated, then that leaves the house wiring;either kill everything that draws power except the recorder and try it connected to the cable - or try it in a friends house.

If it still shows up, then there's nothing left except the recorder itself.
