Lol I don't know much about building computers, yet. I was wondering future-wise if it's possibleto build a computer that runs OS X... Like what does it need that a regular PC doesn't have? I never really understood that... Like I knew before about the PPC processor and whatever but now I don't really know the difference...

BTW, what's the average cost to build a good gaming computer, I guess? Gotta' start saving :P

id say avg cost of a good gamming computer would be at least 1000+ USD.

im not sure but i heard that you cant build a mac yourself because there are like special parts and such. thats just what i heard though, id rather have windows or linux than OSX.

$1000 isn't too bad... Cheaper then my iMac :P

That kinda sucks how you can't build one... I like it how now with the Core 2 Duo you can use Bootcamp to boot into XP... I use OS X for my everyday stuff (downloading, watching vids, emai, etc.) and I use XP for some games and XP only programs like sometimes Nero and when I want toscrew around with someone's iPod Touch or PSP.

actually, you can build a computer that will run OSX... It's just not a wise thing to do, if you don't really understand computers/drivers. The reason it is difficult is because OSX only supports specific hardware, so you may get a motherboard, but the various parts of the motherboard may not be supported (such as onboard sound, video, ethernet, etc)...

However, they are creating more and more updates via open source emulators and such that allow you to run OSX/WINDOWS on a dual boot custom built system... do a google search for OSX86 for more info.

There are ways of running OSX on a PC but they're probably not supported by either Microsoft or Apple. Unless you're very PC proficient, I'd advise you to stick with Windows for a home-built PC.

I'll find a way :P

That OSX86... Many have problems with it... Hopefully though by the time I learn how to build a PC it will be faster and will probably at least have less bugs :D

My computer runs OSX without any problems. It's not all that hard to build. Just get what I have, except for the graphics card. If you want OSX get a 3870, not a 3850. Otherwise you have to flash your card with a new BIOS to get it to work perfectly and then it doesn't work in Windows :(

OSX sucks anyway. Use a hacked version of Windows XP, MUCH better.

That surprises me, the HD3850 seemed a better thought out card to me - what with the 3870 having the fan speed and clock speed glitch in the stock BIOS...
It's interesting to see that the Sapphire single-slot card with the 2-pin fan doesn't suffer from the low fan speed bug. Presumably it has its own software. It's no better though, since 5% fan speed is 2000rpm of the 3500 max. Every 5% increment gets you an extra
I hooked its fan up to my fan controller for a brief moment and had no trouble getting it to spin up to 1400rpm at 5V. Could they not just have done that rather than turn it on and off periodically? It makes a skullnumbing racket compared to the stock cooler.

No it's because you can only get 3870 drivers for Mac. You then have to flash your 3850 with a edited BIOS that shows it as a 3870. That's why after you do that it doesn't work properly in Windows.

Yesh the OS really just feels like Linux when you use it, except you know Linux is actually better.

I'm not much of a fan for Linux... I have Kubuntu on my PS3... OS X and Linux (especially Kubuntu) are very similar like they look similar and they're both based on Unix or w/e, but I just like Leopard better... It's really simple where as my Kubuntu can get a little confusing at times.

Windows is just lame... XP PRO is only good for games and Office... And horrible, annoying, time wasting viruses :(

XP Pro is still very much the gamer's OS. Whether Macs are better than windows or not is an everlasting debate, they'e better in some ways, worse in others. Unanimously the best form of OS to use for all applications except games is Linux. A lowly sempron with 512MB of RAM and integrated graphics can render the vast majority of HD films except the top end 1080p stuff with a perfect frame rate in Linux. You try doing that win windows!

That's because you don't know how to use it and you look at too much porn :p

Seriously though, if you really want a computer that can run Leopard let me know and I can help you out.

I may be about to regret saying this but I haven't had a virus cause me major harm in windows for years, it's called AVG... lol
Some guy had an msn massmailer that kindly gave me the Sasser worm again a couple of months back, but a quick reboot took care of that!

I have never gotten a Virus and I only rely on Windows Firewall. I don't see what the fuss is about.

My dads PC got a Virus, but that's because he was using some stupid website to watch Cricket online, and all he got was a bunch of Spyware.

His computer has Ubuntu right now and it works perfectly.

Which public trackers do you use? I've never had a virus off any of them.
