I have just started having these errors about 3-4 weeks ago. I don't really no of any significant changes I have made to my computer that would cause these problems. Most of the time I have failed burns ( I don't know if it is normal and I don't remember from the past but it seems as if the buffer underrun monitor will not start reading for a 20-30 seconds and then when it does it's about 92% maybe this is normal I don't remember from the past). If the disc ever gets past say about 10 - 15% they usually burn Okay.
I have tried to do research so as not to post questions that have already been answered, but I wanted to ask a few different questions. I understand from most reading 4 things could be wrong.
1. Defective DVD writer (One thing I have not tried)
2. Media (I've tried two different kinds)
3. Ide cable (I've not tried this, I currently use the round cable kind - - I read somewhere where someone had a problem with these, I ve had the same cable for at least 3 years and it has been fine.)
4. Memory usage - In the past I could surf the internet multitask whatever and never had any problems. Since then my best chances of a good burn is to restart computer and maybe the first burn will be good sometimes two. Afterwards they might mostly be bad burns.
IMPORTANT :: I also tried to burn a iso image here while back with dvd dycrpter and it was failed said NO SEEK COMPLETE.
IMPORTANT :: One thing that is strange at the bottom of each log file there is no listing for drivers I'm thinking there has to be something wrong with this.
I'm going to post two log files
FIRST ONE:: This burn was Okay
SECOND ONE:: Failed NO SEEK COMPLETE
I'm hoping I post these right, I've read to edit out serial #

In the first burn you were using good quality discs, looks like Verbatim, in the failed log
Quote: Disc Manufacturer ID: <Prodis> <cF02>
you are using POOOR quality discs and burning way too slow at 1X....stick with the GOOD quality discs and ditch the prodiscs....burn at 4X
Here's something on the error ..NO SEEK COMPLETE
Quote: Solution:
90% of the time this type of error message is caused by poor media, poor power to the recorder, or an optical head needing cleaning, or a drive needing to be serviced.
But it's only 90% of the time. On a rare occasion I've seen this caused by driver conflicts. Either from other software, or drivers for the IDE Controller.
Old firmware on the recorder - Go to the recorder MFG's website to obtain the latest firmware for your recorder. (You may be able to obtain it from this link as well: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php)
Poor media - Try more than one brand of media. For example: TDK, Verbatim, Imation, Yamaha, HP, etc.
Poor IDE cable or incorrect cable - For higher end recorders these days if you use the 40pin cable you can have all sorts of unusual symptoms. It would be best to use an ATA-133 80 wire cable.
Driver conflicts - If you have or had another CD recording software installed on your system, its drivers could be conflicting with our software. This is rare for this symptom, but it does occur. Uninstall any other recording software and make sure all its drivers have been removed with it. Then reinstall Nero and make sure to use the latest version we have posted on our website.
Defective recorder - The optical head on your recorder may need cleaning or servicing. Or it's possible the circuit board on your recorder has an open coil or blown diode or resistor. Any of these could cause the error. Only solution would be to send the drive in for service to the recorder manufacturer.

Thanks for the advice
I've tried different media and still get failed burns.
Isn't there something wrong about no drivers being listed at the bottom of the nero log sheets. I have run the program aspicheck or something like that and these are what is listed.
WINASPI32.DLL
WINASPI.DLL
ASPI32.SYS
WOWPOST.EXE
Not so long ago I burned disc and rarely had any problems even surfing internet, multitasking whatever did not matter.
Any more help would be apreciatted.
How often do the round IDE cables go bad.

well....... how clean is your machine? have you cleaned out the clutter of old temp files, do a registry clean, do a virus/spam scan, and other programs to keep you machine lean and running to it's best performance like when it came out of the box? this is important especially when you're running intense mass storage burning programs that eat up resources and time!

How about nothing showing up under existing drivers, does this mean anything?

It means you're okay, no drivers that might conflict with Nero.
Piss me off, and I Will ignore You!
