Splitting MP3 files using M3U files?

What I have is a MP3 file thats 74 minutes long, and an M3U file that points to it. I know that M3U files are just a pointer really; I am wondering if there is any way to use the M3U file to split the large MP3 album into indivual tracks, similar to how a CUE file can be used to split a large MP3 file. Dont know if this is possible, the M3U would have to contain some sort of track information and Im not sure if it does, just thought Id ask before I start splitting this thing up myself.
