Ok, I did see that there's a topic with the same title, but mine's a little different and I don't understand what's going on here. Basically I got a new computer a few months back and it came with Vista, and I couldn't stand it. So I switched to Linux which was better overall than Vista, except I couldn't run any executable files. So now, I've decided to go to Windows XP instead.

In order to complete the setup I have to go into safe mode to complete the installation. I hit F8 on the boot up screen (tapping method) and nothing happens, it just doesn't do anything. Does anyone know what's going on here?

Never heard of that before.. xp does not need to go into safe mode to complete the installation.. the installer just runs and finishes.

Why is it asking you for safe mode? What have you done wrong?? Why don't you just start the xp installation again???

Chances are you are now going to have a nightmare of driver issues with xp.. bet you didn't make a list of your onboard hardware while you had vista or xp installed.

So you tried running windows .exe files in linux did you.. can I suggest READING a little about linux next time? haha ;)

I did but not all .exe files can be ran in Linux the way they're intended. Some exe's you have to have a GUI interface to fully use the program, just running them from the command line won't cut it for everything.

As for my issue, it's fixed the ISO was corrupt. But thanks anyways.

Good work.. thought it would be something to do with your install or the source disk. That's why I nudged you quite hard.. you can install and run linux, windows is for kids ;)

Linux doesn't run .exe files.. it's not windows. In *nix everything is a file.. a text file can be executed as can a binary or a shell script. Scripts are more like the old M$ batch files, but with way more options.

When you do eventually move to linux full time you will get to love leaving all that windows payola, serials, keygens, cracks and paranoia behind.. it's great, believe.. The best bit is being allowed to just use software without constantly having to prove you haven't stolen it..
The only .exe I need to run on my system is my nokia phone software, and there is a fix for that coming soon ;)
