Today I installed the above DVD writer (master on secondary IDE). So far I have burned to 4.7GB Datawrite DVD-R, Memorex DVD+RW and Sony CD-R. However, when I use the DVR to read the burned discs I can't see files in folders but can see the folder names. Also, if the files are in the root folder I can see the file names but not open them or copy them to the HDD. My Pioneer DVR-A06 (slave on secondary IDE) reads the burned discs OK, as does my DVD player. The firmware in the 115D is 1.06. Would updrading to the 1.18 firmware solve this or is it a faulty DVR ? Am using XP SP2 and Nero 6.
Thanks for any help.

PeterJG,
Update your firmware. It could be an interpretation issue with the current firmware you have. What kind of files are these?

Firmware is programming that is inserted into a programmable memory area of your drive, thus becoming a permanent part of a drive. This 'software' is called firmware and can be updated with a firmware flasher. A firmware upgrade can add new functionality to your drive. Also bug fixes and improvements are done by firmware upgrades. It also adds more media codes and write strategies to the drive to improve burning capabilities and disk recognition.
So updating your firmware can only help with your burner! Whether your DVR will read them properly will be determined by the quality of your disk and is it recognized by the DVR? Using good media to start with stops many problems! I use Taiyo Yuden which is the best, IMHO! Verbatim is also readily found in stores and is also top notch..... keep away from Made in India Verbatims.......check labels and make sure!

File types include .xls, .doc, .jpg, .pdf, .tif. Unreadable media types include Datawrite DVD-R, Sony CD-R, Memorex DVD+RW, Packard Bell CD-R, Verbatim DVD-RW+RW. However all can be read by my Pionmeer DVR A06. Thanks for confirming to upgrade firmeware although I am reluctant to do so just yet until I hear from the seller in case guarantee is invalidated.

Check to see if your DVR can read File types include .xls, .doc, .jpg, .pdf, .tif. This could be your reason why it can't see these files!

Thanks for the suggestion of ability to read file types. I hadn't come across that before but don't see how the drive would know as all it sees is binary data.

I have read on the Pioneer website that the drive needs an 80 wirw cable (not mentioned on the vendor's site !). I wonder if that could be the cause of my problem ?

I have just managed to write and read a small (few kb)txt file on an Emtec CD-RW disc using the drive so it does work (just !).

Further to my earlier messages, I may have corrected the problem. Blindly I used Nero 6 tools to look at the drive, discs etc with no luck. But when I randomly checked on the ASPI drivers it said they were corrupted. Not sure exactly what this does but I know it is something to do with in/output for drives. I downloaded a new set of ASPI files from the Adaptec site and installed them and now the drive seems to work fine (so far anyway !). I think the 80 wire cable might only be for dual layer and/or high speed reading/writing.

Thanks for the comments.

The problem with my DVR-115D not reading has quickly returned !!!! However, I tried completely disconnecting the Pioneer DVR-A06 from it's slave position on the secondary IDE channel leaving only the 115D as the master on the same secondary channel. Once again the reading problem is resolved and I can read all discs again. (I wonder how long it will last this time ???).

Can anyone explain this ?
