I am having trouble burning the files I copied to my harddisk to a Dual Layer DVD. I use AnyDVD to rip the files to my harddisk, and then nero to burn to a dual layer DVD.
The burn seems successful, and when I play the disk on my computer, everything works fine. However, I run into problems when I try and play the disk on my dvd player.
On one disk I burned, the menu did not work at all, and I could not fast forward.
On another one, parts of the menu did not work (when i go to scene selection, the buttons show up when i highlight over them, but the rest of the screen is black), and I can only fastforward at 2x. When i go higher than 2x, it jumps to the next chapter.
Is this because I did not copy to an ISO file before burning? Is there any way around this or do I need to re-rip all the movies again? I hope this isnt the case cause I really dont feel like re-ripping so many movies =/

imgburm seems to work better than nero for DL media so give that a try , also make sure your using GOOD blank DL media like Verbatim DVD+R DL burning at 4x max or burn at 2.4x

One would have to assume the dvd player is where your issue is,as an example: occasional burns played thru my ps2 can be jittery etc,on the comp it's perfectly fine, they're also ok on my newly aquired 2nd hnd dvd player which a mate gave me,you may find things would be better ? if you just ripped the MOVIE ? itself perhaps, you can always add any extra footage that are on the mother dvd if needbe

Is there an AD Guide to Burning DL DVD's? I am using FujiFilm DVD+R DL media which was, unfortunately, made in Taiwan rather than Japan. My burner is an NEC DVD+RW ND-6100A and is supposed to have dual layer burning capability.
I have backed up a compressed DVD of American Gangster using AnyDVD and 1ClickDVDCopy5, but the quality is not as good as I would like for this great movie. I thought by burning a DL, I would get less compression and better quality. This is my first attempt at using the DL feature and media, and it isn't going well. :-)
I have searched the Forum for American Gangster and for the Guide I need but have been unable to find anything definitive for a Guide. I did find a Guide for Backing up Your DVD w/DVDFab, FixVTS, Shrink & ImgBurn that was last updated in April 2007, but I thought perhaps the additional software might improve the quality of the compressed DVD somewhat. I downloaded all the current versions that are available for the listed programs, but I got only as far as using FixVTS when it occurred to me that I could blank some unneeded material using VOB Blanker. It doesn't appear to work after you have used FixVTS, but some of the frames I would like to remove are still present.
I am a very long-time member of this Forum and have used the advice and Guides here for creation of hundreds of DVD's, but I have never posted asking for help for a specific problem. It was much easier in the past to find the solution I needed simply by searching. It has become more difficult to find those answers now. I can follow directions, even when I am unfamiliar with some of the terminology, so if you can provide those directions, or tell me where to find them, I will be most appreciative.
Many thanks!

Hello,
I guess, I am having the same problem. I have got a new DVD-writer (LITE-ON LH-20A1H), which was highly recommended for DL burning. My old Pioneer 108 was perfect for single layer DVDs, but people were blaming it for a lot of failures in case of DL burning.
I decided to try my new burner using a new pack of Memorex because Verbatim disks were on on sale. When I used NERO 7, though the program showed a good burn, the disk was not readable. Second layer was not burned correctly.
I decided to try Roxio 9, which allowed burning image files, which I got using DVD Shrink (converted DVD-files to ISO file in 8-9 min). NERO did not want to burn them as Image files... However, Roxio had no problem. In fact, I was sirprised that it was too fast (close to 8x instead of usual 2.4x for NERO). Two (2) burns went very good, the disks were readable by NERO and DVD Shrink, which I used as a quick check. When I tried to use ImgBurn, it said that the Image file was not properly prepared. So I did not use it.
As a conclusion, I believe that the problem could be in NERO as the main program I use for burning, not in DVD-burners.
I decided to check ImgBurn. After a brief check, I have realized that it creates layers separations appropriate to a disk. I am not sure if NERO does anything like this. This could be where the problem is. That might explain why a lot of people have better results burning Image files rather than the DVD structure.
I will certainly try to solve this problem, however, someone might have already done this and could advise me.
For now, burning image files works better than burning DVD stucture using NERO. (ImgBurn is a free program, easy to use too).
