Hi Guys,

I have a standard CRT television 38" this is not a LCD or Plasma this is just a standard TV.

I want to plug up a Media PC (which I am considering making) but I want to know what quality I would get - I would rather know now rather than purchasing everything and making a loss on my investment.

If I connect s-video to scart what is the quality going to be like? I am planning to use a 6600GT AGP graphics card.

Is there any converter device that would deliver a clean and clear image on the screen?

I don't want to upgrade my TV as I currently do not have the funds for this.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You're going to be limited to the resolution of your TV. Typically, this is going to be pretty low, so trying to read text is going to be difficult. If you're simply going to watch standard definition movies, then you should be fine, but if you're planning on gaming or surfing the web, then I wouldn't recommend it.

silk32,

Thanks for your reply. The media PC would have Windows Media Centre 2005 installed running on XP, I would just want to run DivX movies and DVD, possibly in the future I may add a capture card.

I want smooth movie playbacks with no screen glitches or fuzzy effects etc - is this achievable?

Yes, the movies will look similar to a standard DVD player using S Video. Also, you'll need to run an audio cable from your headphone jack to the audio in port on your TV, unless you simply want to use the speakers on your computer.

Update:

I had connected the PC to the TV using an s-video to s-video cable, the result was a static filled screen - however when windows did load the static were less apparent, however there were horizontal lines on the top area of the screen and on the bottom area - the middle was clear and acceptable. When I ran a Divx file the clip played well but again the lines (which flow up the screen) appear.

I also attempted to use s-video to scart - the result no display.

What result would I get if I tried an s-video to RCA or how about a converter is there a device which would convert it so it will display good quality output for divx and DVD playback?
