Compatability of discs with Panasonic DVD Recorder

Just bought the parents a Panasonic DVD recorder (DMR 50) and a few DVDs. The originals play fine but when I tried some of my back ups they are not recognised.

the back ups are on Ritek DVD-R discs burned with Pioneer 105 and play excellently on my own DVD player at home.

Any suggestions? I have a few ideas - maybe I need to include the AUDIO_TS directory? but they live so far away it's not onvenient to keep running backward and forward agter every brainwave I have. Would rather take advice from the forum and go well armed!

Any advice appreciated.
