Hi!

I have a ripping problem.

Using both NERO or ISOBURN I have manged to rip two of my DVDs to my hard drive.

When I try to copy them to a DVD, they record ok.....but the disc ONLY plays back on both of my computers..It WILL NOT work in the DVD player.

Anyone have any idea wjhat i am doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

It may be burning it in a non-regional format. Computers will usually play any type of DVD format. But DVD players will only play the PAL (European) format or NSTC (American) I can't remember Japan's regional name not that that matters right now. Basically if it rips a DVD and records it with out specifying the prefered regional format. The DVD player will not recognize it. But I am not a professional or anything like that. Or it could be ripping it over to a completely different type of media it should be called VIDEO.TS file. I know a different method of backing up your DVD's and it works. And best of all it's free.

Thanks!

I will email you whenI get home from work.

The REGION CODe is not the problem....I can rip PREVIOUSLY BURNT dvds no problem.(Anjd my player is ALL REGION).

This probelm only occurs when I try to rip an original DVD.]

(PSI am using the FREE TRIAL version of NERO 8..Is THIS what is causing teh problem?...Like I said, itt burns previously burned DVDs ok!)

Unless you bought those DVDs from overseas, PAL/NTSC should not be an issue.

What do you use to decrypt the DVD? What discs are you using to burn onto?
Here is a complete guide, with free applications to backup any store bought DVDs.

@Kratos77

Might want to remove your email address. Those darn forum rules again...
NCIS, that is a good show by the way. Gibbs is pretty cool, and Ziva is not bad looking!

PAL/NTSC system is not the same with region code of the player. Just because a player is region free it does not mean it will play both PAL/NTSC video.

For example, USA,Japan, Central and South America, they all go with the NTSC system. However, they are in different regions.
USA is region 1, Japan is region 2 and Centra/South America is region 4. Having a region free player would allow you to play any DVD made for one of those regions.

Japan and Europe are included in the same Region 2. However, in Japan they use NTSC, and in Europe PAL. So, even in the same region, discs from Europe are not universally playable in Japan, unless using a player capable of PAL playback.

So the point of having a region free player is to be able to play any disc from any region that uses the same video sytem, PAL or NTSC.

Sounds good to me. So pretty much if you own one of these players. You can not have to worry about where you get your DVD shipped to you from. You should be able to view with little or no difficulty. I guess my only problem then would be the DVD's would have to be in subtitle if they don't have any english audio. Thanx for the input on this?!

Yes, you do have to worry where they are shipped from. If the Lexington you were talking about was one in Kentuky/Virginia/N.Carolina, that means you live in US.

With a region free player, you would not be able to play any DVD from any region. You would be able to play only DVDs from a region that uses NTSC video system.
As for english audio/subtitles,most of them have'em no matter where they were released.

Sorry didn't catch that earlier. I guess we in the U.S. are just better off purchasing DVD's and players from our own store's. Thanx.

Okey-Dokey.
Sometimes there is no option but buying the movies online. I buy a lot of HK Fu flix online; must know what you're getting to make sure it works for you.

Haha..

my first post and it has been taken away from me hahahahaaa...

As for the region code thing....I have a PAL/NTSC region free Dvd player and a plasma NTSC/PAL tv...so there is no problem there...

Ok...

First I ripped it with DVD SHRINK 3.2 ...It ripped fine to my hard drive...I burned it with NERO 8 (trial vedrsion).
It copied onto the disc....I even played it in TWO different computers...worked FINE.....but NOT in my player..

Next, I ripped it with ISOBURN. Same story...I burned it onto the DVDR, but it wont play in my player..just my computers...

I tried the same thing with a PREVIOUSLY burned DVDR movie...It copied and played fine in both my computer AND dvd player...

What am I doing wrong?

Some standalone players are more picky about the media you feed them. Dash R format is widely accepted in most standalones. Or, one could booktype (to DvdRom) with the right burner and program, which also renders great compatability.

That's right. I have a convert xvid to dvd format program and even with normal compression. My dvd players have a hard time playing them in certain case's. For some Dvd media it has to be just right to make things run smooth in your player. It can be very irritating at times. Just got to keep trying to you get it right.

A BIG thanks to everyone who has tried to help me out with this one....

I followed the tutorial that was linked by CYPRUSROM and it worked perfectly....

I think it may have been a NERO problem after all........
