Is it possible to use like Fido's GSM carrier for internet access? I thought when you unlocked a phone it meant u can use any carrier, but apparently not. So is there a way to use another carrier to get onto the internet

Why do you say apparently not? If your phone is unlocked you can subscribe to any carrier that offers coverage in your area. Just buy a sim for the one you want.
