I have an externatl LG Dvd writer. I have had it for about a year. It is not recognising blank dvd's. It can read disks with stuff on them but is unable to read blank disks. When I click on the dvd icon in "My Computer" it asks me to insert a disk. I have tried changing the data cable but no difference. Any ideas??????

try uninstall BOTH the drive and the IDE controllers in device manager reboot and let windows reinstall.

Sounds like a problem in the pickup - most likely a mechanical fault.
