i can start it on safe mode, but when i try normal boot, it doesnt work. it always freezes at the 'welcome' sign on windows xp pro. i dont think its a virus or anything because i scanned it in safe more, and yea. this started when i accidently yanked on my speaker and it fell, and the right speaker didnt work. after that, the computer started lagging, but when i restarted it, it worked fine. now it freezes at start up.

is there any way to fix this? im not sure what the problem is.

also, what are the reason of making a computer freeze?

do a scandisk on your c: drive, maybe the hard drive was writing when you moved the speaker.

If you have usb speakers, move the connector to a different slot.

If it loads in safe mode then you likely have a hardware/driver issue. I could be a lot of things such as over heating. Give a little more info and we can home in on it.

is not a virus related being it started with speaker falling down. try a system restore to before the speaker fell.

not a system recovery but a windows system restore to say the day before you dropped the speaker thereby causing your problem.

When it boots up in Safe mode, opt to go to a Restore point, instead of going into the desktop. Then pick a Restore point that you have, that was before you dropped the speaker.

Did you try getting to a restore point, the way I suggested? If so, what happened?

It could be an audio card problem. If you have a dedicated PCI audio card then shut down your PC and check to see if it is seated properly. When you dropped your speakers it could have caused your card to slip out of the PCI slot a bit.

If you have integrated audio then reboot, go into bios, look for your audio device and disable it.

If either of these things make a difference they you will likely know what is causing your problem.

Where did you try disabling the card and are we talking about integrated (built into your motherboard) or dedicated which is an add on card?

The difference is significant! Your system isn't dead or it wouldn't load into safe mode, but your graphics card has been affected physically by your speaker drop.

Try this: Go into safe mode, right click on my computer and choose properties, and then>hardware>device manager>and you will come to a menu. Look for sound, video controllers. Click on the + sign and it will open a sub-menu. right click on the one that is your sound device and choose properties, and then look under device status and report the message.

alright guys, ill do it ASAP. the sound card is integrated. i also did try the system restore, not system recovery. i did disable it in the bios, but i did not check in the device manager in safe mode.

edit: thanks amillion guys! i got it fixed with the system restore. well like the first time, it didnt show a message that the system restore finished, so thats why it didnt work. but now it works. i really appreciate your guys' time to help.

Dropping a set of speakers is unlikely to have caused windows to be corrupted so a system restore probably won't do anything. The reason that you can boot into safe mode is because device drivers are no loaded so there is nothing to call on your hardware. Since the problem was caused by dropping your speakers it is possible that your integrated sound device was damaged. Disabling it in Bios will stop windows from trying to load the drivers and should allow your system to boot up. If you can't disable it in bios then you will have to disable it in device manager in safe mode. You can also look in add remove programs for the driver and uninstall it as well.
