Need help with my external harddrive..

When I went to plug in my external harddrive today ( comstar 320 gb )
it said something about a power surge, and now it won't recognize at all.

is there any way to fix this, or to get the data off the external?
there are pieces of information in that external that i need.

Any help is appreciated.

You might want to try out the free testdisk, maybe that can fix it.

the surge maybe coming from the enclosures circutry

remove the harddrive from the enclosure and install it into anothe enclosure or install it as a slave drive
