Im running Vista x64, and its been running fine for a while now.. i was doing some changes in the bios, and i ended up having to reset the cmos on my motherboard. after this it started up no problems and was using it all day, with no problems. the next morning, i had a blue screen error with a message that i didnt pay enough attention to. it read something about a hardware/software issue that had caused windows to shut down. so, i just reset thinking it wasnt anything major, and from that point on the computer wasnt able to load past the ram check. i had to take out my ram that was working perfectly fine previously, and set them in different dimm slots, and was able to get through the startup, but now windows only will open with the windows disk.
if i enter bios setup and set boot priority with my previously working harddisk 1st, and cdrom 2nd, i get an error during loadup that says "boot disk error, insert boot disk and press enter". When i do this, and press enter, nothing happens.. it doesnt initiate the cd.
So, i restart, and go back to the bios setup, where i set cdrom as 1st in boot piority, and it will boot off the cd in that setting, and bring me to windows..
How can i get windows to open without the disk? is it a bios setting that changed when i reset the cmos that i forgot to change back? Any ideas?
