Need a little help on building a Gaming PC?

I bought a HP a6154n from CC today but didnt opening it yet. Taking it back tomm..... Any help would be great... I have a 500 GB HDD and a case with a 500 psu... have 3 diff dvd burners...
Just need a:
cpu
memory
mb
video card
not sure if this case will do the SLI, so should i get another case or dont worry about that.... just want a FAST system. any help would be great.
Looking to spend 600, no more than 700... i know someone out there can make it happening :) thanks guys

Did you already buy that case? That cast is really overpriced and you can get a cheaper one with more features (try newegg.com or tigerdirect.com), and as for the rest, are you going intel or amd? amd is cheaper, intel is better (benchmarks say so anyways)

Try buying parts from newegg if possible, much cheaper.
I recommend
Core 2 Duo E6750
2x1GB Corsair XMS2 RAM
Gigabyte P35-DS3R Motherboard
Radeon HD3870 Graphics card
Coesair HX 520W power supply (a decent PSU is essential, unless your existing one is a decent brand like Antec, Seasonic, Tagan etc. it will need replacing, regardless of the 500W figure)
That lot should set you back somewhere in the region of $700. It is a TOP spec gaming setup though, make no mistake.

ok...... what about 9600 gt..... I think that's it..........could I get away with my 500 psu for now.

It depends which brand it is. The 9600GT is not any less power hungry than the 3870. It's more important to upgrade your PSU than anything else in your system. Get a new unit regardless.

That's fine, but as I say you still should upgrade your power supply if it's not a decent brand, no matter which graphics card you go with.
For memory, we recommend either Corsair XMS2 or Crucial Ballistix around here, at least PC6400 speed, if not PC8500.
As for the motherboard, the P35-DS3R is being phased out I think, not sure what it's in favour of. Presumably a newer chipset.

but my thing is, i just want a good pc... that could play hd movies... so i thought if i had a sweet gaming computer than i know the hd part would be good?

all psu in prebuilts are 300 or lower. you have to fork out around $400, give or take, for a videocard and new psu.
