BitBurners.com has just published a mini-review on Maxell's current DVD+R and DVD-R media.

http://www.bitburners.com/articles/maxel...ia-review/3981/

To summarize, their DVD-R media is currently RITEK F1 and seems to be performing quite nicely, but the DVD+R media by RICOH was worse than expected, and problems were found using both of the used drives.

I would be very interested in hearing if you have found different MIDs in Maxell media, than the ones shown in the review?

As usual, the MediaBase ( http://media.bitburners.com ) is your solution for storing and publishing your testresults in an organized manner.

The old school is back. All hail the new http://BitBurners.com !

The last batches of Maxell +R DVD's have coded out as CMC Mag MO1 with the worst result I have seen.
They are even too bad for give-a-ways! The percent trashed is 25 - Good thing it was free DVD's from Christmas.

I tried the +16x Maxell once-about a year ago:

+16x MADE IN TAIWAN: CMCMag-M01

I avoided them after that..I wish mine did code as Ricoh. I can't locate any scans, but it may be on my spare pc.

I'll take the maxell +8x ricohs anyday.. Now I've been getting a slew of Ricohjpn-R03-00 on Office Depot and MIT Memorex + 16x.
They are pretty decent media.

Ah, so they are still shipping CMC too. I have seen CMC in some old batches, along with the ones carrying their own MAXELL or MXL MIDs.

Guys, id there any chance you could upload some test results to the MediaBase? The database is in pretty good shape, but we would desperately need more data to make it more comprehensive.

The idea is that the MediaBase is the "ImageShack of media scans", so that one can upload images & comments to base, and conveniently link his results from forums, emails, and so on. (So the idea is not to hijack media discusson from this forum, or any other forum, but to provide a common integrated platform to store the test results)

All I've seen in + R is CMC Mag. Have seen Ritek, CMC & Prodisc in - R. Haven't seen the Ricohjpn in either format.

I've used an obscene amount of the 16x +R Maxell in the RICOHJPNR03 guise, absolutely fantastic media. Have also used quite a lot of CMC MAG M01 too (my local supplier were sent them by mistake thinking they were Ricoh's and now can't guarantee whether they have Ricoh or the CMC). The M01's seem ok but it's far too early to tell if they're a patch on the Ricoh's, especially as many people out there have got less than positive things to say about them..
