Hi, I recently overclocked my Q6600 from 2.4 to 3.7 and it still seems that its not as fast as expected. Like loading programs like itunes and doing program runs like spybot or ad-aware still roughly take the same time as before I overclocked.

So what is it that actually speed these factors up.

it could be windows is just slowing down. try defragging and run cc cleaner. that should help a little.but you are not going to see big improvements in programs like itunes and alot of programs are single threaded and cant go much faster. if you try encoding a video or playing a game you will notice a difference.

Make sure you have C1E support disabled in the BIOS. (I think that's what it is called.) The CPU may be at 2.4Ghz or lower when in Windows and not under a lot of stress. If you were to open a program that requires the full speed of the CPU then it will go to 3.7Ghz.

Try downloading CPUZ to see if your processor is even running at the speed you overclocked it to.

if your hard disk is an older, slower model or if it's full and/or fragmented, that'll be the limit.
