I've been using DVD Decrypter to make ISO files because it's easier to then burn the ISO to a new disk. (I had been duplicating movies with ISOs because that reproduced the original exactly.) I've been having some problems with the result, lately, so I thought I'd try capturing the files/folders using Mode>File (or using some other program to do it). Nero complains that these are movie files and they won't play if I copy them directly to disk. Can anyone point me toward a brief tutorial on using these files to write to a movie DVD. Any advice is appreciated.

srdancer,

What problems are you having with burning ISOs? Also, what program are you using to write them? In Nero, you need to burn the contents of the VIDEO_TS folder as a DVD-Video. Here's a guide on how to to it.

Thanks for responding so quickly.

I have a really expensive but older Sony DVD player.

When I burn a DVD-R (single layer) from a DVD Decrypter-made ISO, it plays without a hitch. But, recently, when I burn a larger movie to DVD+R DL, my player either doesn't recognize the disk (it reports there's no disk) or it reports "code 13" which is a non-playable region disk. (My previous blank DVDs were the same brand and type.)

Without changing anything about my installation, it had just started happening some disks back; before, everything was working fine.

That's why I thought I'd try writing files/folders instead of ISOs.

Oh, and you asked how I was burning them: I use Nero 7.x.

The only difference between an ISO and DVD files (VIDEO_TS) is the way they are written; I suggest using Verbatim DL discs. Subsequently, burn the ensuing ISO image file with ImgBurn in lieu of Nero. Also, while you're at it, you can check for a burner firmware update using ImgBurn by right clicking on your burner under the Destination box, and then select Check For Firmware Updates...
