I have been having trouble with WinAvi Video Converter. I launch it and it will start as normal but, once I hit the OK button to begin conversion it stops working and I get that message that says, "WinAVI 9.0.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Then asks me if I would like to send error report or don't send. Here is the Error Signature if it helps. AppName: winavi 9.0.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: xvid.ax
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 0003dd11
Does anyone know what the problem is?

What kind of file are you trying to convert?

Perhaps a clean uninstall and reinstall is in order.

I was trying to convert and AVI file to DVD. I already tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Maybe I could convert AVI to DVD another way or with another program. Maybe something in the way of FREEWARE. I did try using the following guide at this link http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/272946 it tells how to use nero to convert but, it's missing some pictures.

Oh I also got a related question. Have you purchased ANYDVD. I went to the website but, it says ANYDVD cost $75 for USA. IS that the normal price and is it better that DVD43.

yes anydvd is better by far in my opinion! (look for promo from afterdawn site = cheaper)

for your avi to dvd (freeware) use dvd flick, very good app...

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

I have nothing real positive to say about DVD43...so yes AnyDvd is the one i would go with.

Agree with Rotary (as usual) Dvd Flick is a good app for avi conversion.

thanks for the advise about DVD Flick. It worked good. However, the audio is not in sync with the video. Do you know why this happens? I even tried reburning the ISO with NERO and got the same result with audio.

oh yeah to add, I burned at 2.4x speed with nero. I don't know what speed dvd flick speed burned at but, I still got the same audio problem. I've also used the same media I have always used for the last 500 or so back ups.

ok

dvd flick has a sync fixer in the app on auto, so this could mean 2 things

1, the file you added has a sync issue?

or

2, the file you added DOESNT but dvd flick is reading it wrong and correcting it? which in this event makes it wrong.

try dropping your AVI file into AVI-MUX GUI (free app) test sync

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

@ Rotary. thanks for all your advise. After DVD flick did not work I went and messed around with the following guide http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/272946. Instead of burning to DVD I told it to burn to ISO Image. It created the file as .nrg. When I launched the .nrg file it opend NERO then burned to DVD. It worked perfect no audio problem. I still like the DVD flick but will have to play around with the audio settings I must have made a mistake somewhere. THANKS again.

Hey buddy, I have YOUR SOLUTION!
lol I was having the same problem with winavi and I tried everything from uninstalling, trying different versions, downloading codecs, ect. Nothing worked. But I finally found the solution and it was so dimple.
Simply go to the DivX website and download it again and winavi will work for you once more!

I am still using version 7, so not familiar with settings in version 9, but I recall a setting for Direct AC3 encoding. Untick that checkbox if the avi already has dolby digital audio track and not mp3.

There are some versions of DVD Flick that give an audio/video sync problem. Look in the DVD Flick forum for latest version.

Winavi version 9? I thought I was using the latest version, v.8.

Piss me off, and I Will ignore You!
