Ok, I don't know what happened, but I have an HP Pavilion that came stock with the DVD-RW 16X HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GSA-H30L. It worked fine, and tonight I realized it wasn't working. So I checked the device manager and I got the caution sign by it. Here is the "device status": Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
Well, I tried uninstalling the driver and scanning for hardware changes. It finds the drive, but fails when it tries to install the drivers. I went to HP website and downloaded the firmware from there, but I get error messages when trying to install that as well... any clue what could be happening? I use Daemon Tools and had a virtual dvd drive enabled as well, but it worked fine before. But just in case, I went into Daemon Tools to disable the virtual drive and there wasn't one even installed anymore.
Also, in the Device Manager, PG5593J QFG332F ATA Device is showing up in the list DVD/CD-ROM drives now. It's showing the same "device status" as the GSA-H30L. I don't remember if it was in there before or if it should be. I only have one dvd drive. I'm thinking maybe it's the drivers for the virtual drive that got corrupted along with my actual dvd drive as well. But I can't seem to reinstall the drivers for either of the devices.
