Just bought an Acer 22 inch widescreen off of tigerdirect. Anyways, i plug it up and the HP system logo comes up....boots...XP comes up. I hear the beeps like my cpu is working, but the screen remains black. The box says Optimized for Windows Vista for the monitor.

Is that the reason im not seeing anything?

So the 2nd thing i do, is plug the monitor to the onboard video and not my video card and i dont even get that far. Says no input signal or something similar.

Will it not work on XP?

or am i doing something incorrectly?

If more info is needed just post away

thanks.

another thing i didnt mention was ive never used this video card before. So maybe my computer is recognizing the drivers on it. But i figure i would see the HP screen or the XP Boot up screen.

Its going to be a pain to plug my old monitor back up to try to get the drivers on this video card, because a few prongs are missing from the plug in and it wont plug in, so i cant see anything.

Try this first, go into yout bios and see if the onboard video is on, if it is, turn it off, turn off computer, plug your monitor back into your video card and re-boot.

See if that works, as for the Optimized for Windows Vista , I don't think that will effect anything.

Good Luck

Oops missed that part of your post, Do you mean there are pins missing from the cable that goes from your video card to your monitor, or are there pins missing on the video card output?

no the prongs on the old monitor are bent/ some are missing as well

it somehow plugs into my onboard video

doesnt work on my video card......wont stay in

now my new monitor plugs into the onboard......but get no input signal.......plugs into my video card but stays black after the hp/xp boot up

i guess the video card is working because i see the logos.

Try updating the drivers for your video card, see if that helps.

They may not be working properly.

Hey No problem

No, you can't update it that way, because you have to be able to see what your doing.

It's sucks, but there is no other choice, at least none that I know of.

Good Luck

ok

so im a moron and the brother in law who gave me the video card also gave the driver cd............duh

anyways right now ive got my new monitor running on the onboad video(although it takes a few tries after i turn the computer off) so im guessing it wasnt just the pins being messed up on my old monitor

anyways

the drivers install
so i figure just unplug my 22 inch monitor and plug it into the video card. Same thing HP blue screen loads, XP loads......then it turns black.

OK
After the monitor turns black, do you leave the computer on for a couple mins. or do you turn it off right away?

Also what kind of video card is it?
