Hey soulja123,
From your log, you appear to be using an invalid copy of Windows. If your version of Windows is a pirated copy, I would not be able to assist you. Please ensure that you have the purchased license copy of Windows by downloading Windows Genuine Advantage plug in here.

Did it alert you that you need to get a validated copy of Windows? If not, your Windows version is ok. But your log shows that you have an "unknown windows" version, which signifies that you have an illegal copy of Windows. Where did you buy your computer from? It's highly likely that the vendor gave you a pirated copy without you knowing.

I believe HJK ver.1.99, does not display Windows Vista as the OS. Downloading HJK ver.2.0.2 and posting a new log should correct this issue.

It's highly likely that the vendor gave you a pirated copy without you knowing.
I believe HJK ver.1.99, does not display Windows Vista as the OS. Downloading HJK ver.2.0.2 and posting a new log should correct this issue.
I did suspect that as well, just wanted to make sure that his copy is valid. I've known that if HJT shows as "unknown windows", it's probably a pirated copy. Thanks for telling me. :)

Hey soulja123,
Please print out my instructions or copy them to notepad and save on desktop for later reference as we may need to reboot. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Update Java
Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malicious sites can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:
* Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 4 and save it to your desktop.
* Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 4...allows end-users to run Java applications".
* Click the "Download" button to the right.
* Read the License Agreement and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement". The page will refresh.
* Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save the file to your desktop.
* Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
* Go to Start > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
* Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
* Click the Change/Remove button.
* Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
* Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
* Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u4-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Run Combofix
Let's dig a little deeper and see what's hiding in your computer.
Disable your AVG, Mcafee anti-virus and Windows Defender as they will prevent ComboFix from working.
You should NOT use Combofix unless you have been instructed to do so by a Malware Removal Expert. It is intended by its creator to be used under the guidance and supervision of an expert, not for private use. Using this tool incorrectly could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again.
If you have used Combofix before, please delete the version you have and redownload it again, because Combofix is being updated everyday.
Disconnect from the Internet while running ComboFix.
Temporarily disable any anti-virus and anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan.
They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause unpredictable results.
Some scanners may see some combofix related components as suspicious and block or delete them while there's nothing wrong with them.
1. Download this file - combofix.exe to your Desktop.
Note:
It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you, C:\ComboFix.txt. Post the ComboFix log and a fresh Hijackthis log in your next reply.
Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt - unless I ask you to.
Do NOT run ComboFix more than once.
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall
Do not run Combofix more than once.
In case you see a sed.cfexe error with the option to send a report or not, choose "don't send".
The scan will temporarily disable your desktop, and if interrupted may leave your desktop disabled. If this occurs, please reboot to restore the desktop. Even when ComboFix appears to be doing nothing, look at your Drive light. If it is flashing, Combofix is still at work.
Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
In your next reply:
Fresh HijackThis log
C:/ComboFix.txt

That's wierd, I didn't give you any scripts to run with ComboFix. Can you delete the current ComboFix and redownload it again here. To delete ComboFix, go to Start>Run and type in ComboFix /u and then Enter. Delete the current one you have before you download the new one.
Please follow my instructions for running ComboFix carefully. Disable all your protection softwares as indicated in my post above. That is your Mcafee, AVG and Windows Defender.
Go!

Hey soulja123,
Firstly, I don't share my email address and my hotmail address on forums like this, you shouldn't do it either for safety reasons. It's dangerous to leak your hotmail address like this on a public forum, if you want me to add you, you should PM me with your email address. Please remove that as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, as much as I want to add you on MSN to help you, I am unable to do so for security reasons. I'm sure you can understand that MSN is not a very safe software to have on your computer, especially if you share files with people frequently. I'm only liable to add people that I know in real life, and even so, I don't share files with them.
Finally, the instructions I'm going to give can be long and detailed, doing it on MSN can be very inconvenient for both of us.
I'll be thinking of a solution to your computer problem, meanwhile, I would like to you be patient and not attempt to run anything on your computer to fix it. Vista is not compatible with many softwares, and running it may damage your system permanently.
The reason ComboFix is having this problem is most likely because of your OS version.
I'll like you to do the following, and see what the tools can remove/diagnose.
Step 1 - Scan with DSS
Please download Deckard's System Scan.
* Close all other windows before proceeding.
* Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
* When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.
Go!

Dell has a utility called System Restore (Image Restore in Vista). It has a copy of your OS and software as originally shipped by Dell on a separate partition of you HDD. Takes about 15 minutes total, and includes all original software.
Something to consider.
Look in c:Dell\DellSupportDocuments\PCRecovery

soulja123,
Backup you files to CD, reformat, reinstall OS. Install Internet and Internet security. Update OS, add third party software. A few hours later and...
Then Bob's your Uncle! LOL

Hey soulja123,
Sorry for the delay, real life and lots of other stuff have kept me busy.
Please print out my instructions or copy them to notepad and save on desktop for later reference as we may need to reboot. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Fix Look2Me adware
You have look2me adware on your computer. We'll use F-Look2Me to remove Look2Me. (Make sure you are logged in with administrative privileges)
1. Download and unzip f-look2me.zip at www.f-secure.com/tools/f-look2me.zip to your Desktop.
2. Run f-look2me.exe
3. Reboot the machine
---> F-Look2Me loads itself as a service to gain system privileges. The service renames infected files and patches the adware in memory. It also restores Debug Privileges for group Administrators.

Fix entries with HijackThis
Let's do some work with HJT.
Please reopen HijackThis and "Do a system scan only".
Put a check beside the following entries:
O9 - Extra button: PalTalk - {4EAFEF58-EEFA-4116-983D-03B49BCBFFFE} - C:\Program Files\Paltalk Messenger\Paltalk.exe
Please also consider putting a check beside this entry:
O23 - Service: Viewpoint Manager Service - Viewpoint Corporation - C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exe
O23 - Service: Viewpoint Manager Service - Viewpoint Corporation - C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exe - This is not malware, but is considered froistware and is installed without user's permission. I would recommend you to remove it.
Now, close all browsers/windows (except HijackThis) and click "Fix checked". Close HJT.
Reboot into safe mode. (Reboot your computer and tap F8 before windows start)
Now go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel, and remove the following programs (if present):
Paltalk Messenger
Viewpoint
LimeWire (This is a P2P program that can cause security problems on your computer)
Using Windows Explorer, please remove the following folders (if present):
C:\Program Files\Paltalk Messenger\
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\
C:\Program Files\LimeWire\
Finally, go to Start>Run and type in cmd and press Enter. A command prompt windows should pop up. Type sc delete Viewpoint Manager Service and then press Enter to remove the Viewpoint service. If successful, you should receive a confirmation that the service has been deleted.
Reboot back into normal windows.

In your next reply, please include:
Fresh HijackThis log
Description of how your PC is doing
Go!
