I have a problem with doubblesided dvd.-rams

I bought a whole bunch of dvd-rams 9.4 gb
My stupid ass thought that my newest and finest Iomega
dvd+-R / +-RW och Ram should be able to automaticly burn both sides on the doublesided 9.4 gig ram.but noooope , have to sit there and watch it work the first 4.2 gb´s and then manually flip the other side in after an hour or so.
There must be any dvd-burner with dual laser heads that can burn both upside and downside or ám i wrong.
Are there any programs that safe can squeze my info onto only 4.2 gig - needs to backup 5,7 gigs every afternon - dont want to stay there and wait for it
because i have to flip sides after an hour "at that time a should atleast have been into my second beer
