If your firmware is not up to date, it can lead to things like this:







That was burned maybe 4 years ago, before I knew about my burner maintenance (firmware, compatibility, DMA etc.). That goes to show that even the mighty Taiyo Yudens are susceptible to unhealthy optical drives.

Obviously, I no longer have this issue. My burns are at 93% and up--all the time.

I thought everyone would get a kick outta the fact that quality TYs can still be abused by unhealthy drives. It's a shame.

PS That burn was from so long ago that those Fuji 8x MIJs were readily available at Best Buy. Yes, that long ago.

Damn, Creaky, you really do have the best (or worst) one lol.

I saw that thread, and considered posting this there, but I didn't want to confuse any new members. We'll get questions like, "Taiyo Yuden is bad media?"

I really do wish I had more of those Fuji 8x MIJs.
