Being an integrated video and a pretty recent distro release, you're probably not going to get much from an update... If you really want to, you'd probably have to upgrade the xf86-video-i810 package. If the system is running sluggish, you'd need to check that you're actually using it too as opposed to vesa, in which case you'd need to check your xorg.conf for a line like:
Driver "i810"
I imagine that Ubuntu has support for that video quite up to date though.

Similar deal with optimization... Integrated video doesn't give you a massive amount of room for movement. The best optimization you can really do is to set the resolution correctly to whatever your native screen size is, get sub-pixel rendering and fonts correct and turn OFF the eye candy. Or maybe leave it on for a week to just get it out of your system, it gets pretty boring pretty quickly.

A dodgy howto I wrote as I was configuring my girlfriend's laptop. The i810 driver was SUPPOSED to work but didn't, I needed xf86-video-intel... The settings in there will allow Compiz to run, but isn't installed because it runs like a dog. Have a play around, but don't just copy the whole thing and expect it to work. Again, you probably don't even have to change anything, the Ubuntu people do generally have their stuff together when it comes to video support.

gotcha osmick. its just that since i have both firefox and opera i experience problems with them. for example when i run them at full screen size i get blinking. i dont know why this happens exactly. but it distracts me since i love having my browsers up at full screen. i want to run them at full screen without any visual issues. what do you think?

Hey mate, as luck would have it, I found a few other sites on the net dealing with EXACTLY the same problem! You might like to move over to one of these threads just to keep everything centralized...

BTW taurus, you should probably respect the bannings and think about why you got them...

Taurus, i know where you got your name from cos you are full of bull....

Stop being a pain in the ass and asking the same question under different names. You have been given the answer, pointed to other areas where you asked the f**king question yet still you come back like a bad smell.

Consider me as Domestos, and you as one of the 99% known germs.

Learn to read and stop annoying the hell out of people who in future will treat you with the contempt that you deserve.

Good find OzMick/ktulu, i'd quietly noticed the similarities between our newly joined friend altecx and from the other thread - taurus and also sircharlz (now that one was bizarre, joining up with another account to support the original poster ie himself!), along with the fact that all 3 posters seem to come from the same IP. Hey ho it takes all sorts of tricks for someone to get their simple Linux changes done :)
