Ugh, stay way from any tube tv unless you are a weight lifter. Those things are usually big and bulky and can weigh in at a whopping 200+ pounds. Very limited on screen size as well.
If you are not going to be watching much tv, possibly a tv left in the bedroom, then I would buy a Dynex. If you plan on putting a lot of hours on your tv, then DON'T buy a Dynex.
As I always say, consider what you will be using the tv for, before making a purchase. Will you be watching lots of movies, sports, or playing any video games on it? Are there any viewing problems in your house/apt such as too much light in the living room?
Quote: Picture quality
People often have different ideas about what looks "best." Plus, picture quality is more often determined by construction quality and internal processing than by TV type. And finally, various space and budgetary constraints may affect how much importance you place on small differences in picture quality. The bottom line? To get the best possible picture quality, look for TVs from reliable brands, and don't give up better engineering in order to get a bargain basement price.
Viewing angle
The wider the viewing angle, the better the picture will look to people sitting to the extreme left or right of the TV. If you regularly cram a host of friends and family into your living room for event viewing, you want the widest viewing angle possible. (Of course, specs aren't everything; for example, although LCD TVs have a wider viewing angle on paper, our A/V experts have repeatedly confirmed that plasmas actually look better when viewed at extreme angles.)
Black level and contrast
Good black levels deliver rich shadows and excellent shadow detail, so you can easily follow the action in dark scenes. Good contrast gives the picture more punch and 3-D impact.
Screen burn-in
Plasma TVs are great for watching TV shows and DVD movies. However, if you're a devotee of all-day sports viewing or you play a lot of video games, you may opt to steer clear of plasma. That's because the ticker tape, channel logo or game controls that remain stationary on screen can "burn" into a plasma TV screen's phosphor coating, especially in the first hundred hours of breaking in the TV.
"Rainbows"
Although most people can't see it, a few have observed something called "the rainbow effect" when watching DLP TVs. This momentary effect is due to the unique way a DLP TV re-creates the image on screen. Most of today's DLPs include technologies to prevent rainbows, such as a faster color wheel. But if you find you're one of the very small number who are bothered by this effect, you may want to consider an LCD or LCoS big-screen instead of DLP.
Take a look around this site and you will see that people always ask this question. Maybe you can find some answers there. As you will notice some prefer DLP, some prefer LCD, and some prefer Plasma. They all have their pros and cons. Make sure you do a little research before buying your tv.
Update: Try updating the title to this thread, if you don't, it may get closed! Always put a little more thought into the title. ;)

Do you or have you ever owned either of those technologies iluv? I'm in the market for a new DLP or LCOS.
My last set was a 51", so I'm thinking going at least 57" or 65".

@Goodswipe bro, don't have one yet, but my friends do, and with a good upconverting player-- awesome! They have a JVC D-ILA and an Oppo player combo. They can't be happier, ( JVC better price than $ony ). Killer picture!

Yea, I've just seen Samsung and Mitsu's DLP. Been looking at a couple SXRD's, they are nice as well. Haven't seen a JVC set yet. They don't seem to carry many JVC products at the store I shop at, hell I don't think they even have those at the BB here in my town!
Does DLP use the new 3-chip design or is that just a LCOS thing?
Update: Looks like DLP uses that in their digital projectors, not the RP tv's.
LCOS/SXRD does use this in their RP tv's, this eliminates any rainbow effect on the tv that have been seen on many DLP's(never been an issue).

If 3 chip DLP then it is called 3DLP, otherwise just DLP is 1 chip. Bragging rights u know. 3DLP way better than just 1DLP chip. To get 1080, DLP previously used wobulation, a quasi method of getting 1080. I rather have LCD over DLP.

So 3DLP is used on RP tv's? I can't find anything relating to this.

Ok, from what I gathered the 3-chip design is only used in front projectors. The newer single-chip RP DLP's use separate red, green, and blue LEDs which eliminates the need for a color wheel, thus ridding you of the rainbow effect.
All SXRD(LCOS) sets use the 3-chip technology.

Awhile back, last year, I saw a JVC D-ILA RPTV at Costco that was 720 - old stuff they were trying to get rid of. May have a few around ( other tv stores ) . All the new ones are 1080, so be careful of what u r buying.

Oh trust me, when it comes to my money, I'm very careful! Looks like I might be saving up for one of these LED RP sets. Or I can roll with a LCOS, I dunno what I'll do. I'm definitely going to hold out for awhile and get the best that I can in that market.

I'm either going to get one from Fry's or I'm gonna shop around all these stores to get an idea of what I'm working with, then order it off Newegg.
I wonder if benbernie is going to come back and update us? lol

Becareful of Fry's, a lot of stuff is either refurb ( and not disclosed as such ) or returns sold as NIB.
