I currently have 2x 3870s, which i run in crossfire at the moment. I want to buy 2 more for crossfire x, ready for when the new drivers are released.. but which power supply on the market today would fit the bill.

Im thinking at least 1000W.. But do you think ya could get away with an 800W psu? If so which one..

thanks

Sell your 2x 3870s and get 2x 3870x2's

4 3870s most likely will not fit on whatever Spider Platform mobo you're using due to the massive coolers - and even if they did there would be absolutly no air circulation.

But to answer your question, a Galaxy 1000w, a Thermaltake truepower, an Antec PSU, and I would also recommend Corsair but I do not believe they make a 1000watt PSU.

That could be a plan.. All though I will have a look and see if I can water cool atleast 2 of em or all of them if possible.
Ive looked at some benchies.. so not entirely sure if I will buy any x2 when the 3870s is crossfire are better and draw less power.
The galaxy seems to be the best choice, but its bugging me that there is only 2 pcie connectors, but then like ya said get 2 x2s and then it would`nt matter having 2 pcie`s... I do like the Tagan 1300 U33 ITZ series.

Decisions!!!

Thanks though m8

Heh, At 2560x1600 that setup kind of makes sense if you've got loads of money. A single 3870 really struggles with some games at 2560x1600.
A PC with four 3870s is likely to use around 750W at full load, so on that basis I'd recommend something like the Corsair HX 1000W (being released at the end of the month), Thermaltake Toughpower 1000W or the Antec TruePower Quattro 1000W, you should always aim for extra headroom when you're using that much power. Tagan and Coolermaster units are mindblowingly loud when under lots of stress, and I'm not convinced by the quality or expense of Enermax units. Corsairs are proven performers in all fields, so that should be a sure bet, and the 750W Toughpowers are excellent, so the 1KW Should follow suit. OCZ units can't deliver 1KW reliably, so they're out.

You do realise, however, that you have quite a slow CPU for these graphics cards? You might wish to consider moving to an Intel based system to take advantage of these cards. An E8400 or Q9450 overclocked to the 3.6Ghz mark. Of course neither CPU is easy to find yet, and the upgrade process won't be cheap, but you seem like the kind of chap who wouldn't worry too much about that!
