I used to backup with DVD Shrink, and its set to burn at x4, but a user told me to use DVDFab Platinum to burn (because I bought it). I had no problem using it, but I forgot to set it to burn at x4. The fastest this drive can burn is at x20 (pretty scary thought). Well th DVD cracked in the drive, I have a photo if you want one. I have no idea if any damage was caused to the drive, I hope not. Any idea if I can get a replacement if something did happen? I received the drive last year around April 7th.
Any ideas, I am scared to even put a disk in there.
Ouch; i had a mate at work using a lowly CD and it exploded on him during an install (so going at only 1 speed or low speed), he was installing NT4 and BANG, half the office ducked as we thought it was a bomb, or a PC catching fire. You sure there's no bits of disc left in the drive; anyways i'd be complaining to the supplier that the drive attacked you, if i was you
What was the brand name, format, and speed rate of that blank disc that cracked?
Where's the crack at?
Can you post a pic of it?
If it only cracked,I'd still try the drive again, but slower.Try playing an old backup that isn't important to you.
I've had some crappy maxell -4x riteks that would crack on the inner hub-approx 5-7 mms.A bad batch. Didn't hurt the drive any. Those backups did play, but had about a 1 week lifespan til the acrylic layers separated from the dye and then a big glob of dye appeared.
They were Memorex 16x. I know Memorex sucks, but that was the only problem I had. I have a LITE-ON, if you need the exact model let me know. I forgot to choose a speed, so it burnt at "Auto" (which I think is 20x). But it cracked. I will post a picture when I find my camera.
As long as it didn't shatter, you should be all right.
For over a year, +16x memorex have been pretty decent and breaking the memosux reputation. These are the Made in Taiwan Ricohjpn-R03-00's.The same MID code is on a lot of Office Depot +16x and a for alot less money than memorex.
Last batch of +16x memorex,I forget to look at the label and they turned out to be MBI's,and a little worse than the ricoh memorex. These were made in India. I tested a couple so far and getting nero scores of 90.Memorex did it again by switching to a lower quality manufacturer.
