The 05 model was made by Cyberhome not by liteon. The ZU model was the first of the line which was the ZU, MU, MU1. I had a ZU but that was over two years ago. I still have a MU1
The ZU was a problem unit [not for all] the operation of the unit and remote was different than the MU and MU1 and most ZU units were exchanged or junked

I don?t have a manual for the ZU, but remember the operation of it and the remote was not good.
ilo is a Wal-Mart brand and Cyberhome is no longer in business and I don?t believe Wal-Mart sells a ilo DVD player/recorder

I AM not aware of any 05 unit having anything but a Default Setting, that would return the unit back to factory settings, not reset it I'm not sure on the ZU but On the MU and MU1 there is not a setting that would cause such a problem as you post

Are you sure the connections are right? On the back, the audio coaxial ourput Connection can easily be mistaken for the Video output

If all else fails Take the unit back to Wal-Mart and tell them it needs parts [like the DVD drive] that you can?t get and you want it fixed . I know they can?t.
They may give you another unit or a good price on one.
The ZU was a bummer and Wal-Mart took many back

Sorry I cant be more help on that ZU model

It kinda sounds like he may have put the dvd player/rec into "Progressive" mode. If your tv has component inputs, try component cables (red, green, and blue) from dvd player/rec to tv. There may be a setting for "Progressive" mode in tv's setup menus also. Not sure though.

You can try leaving it unplugged overnight (not turning off switch on surge protector). Sometimes that sets electronics back to factory defaults.
Good luck!

JVC
Good Point
In setup audio/video there is an option to set Interlace or P scan however if the TV will not P scan, the setting should go back to interlace There should be no total black out of a picture. This is for the MU series I can?t remember on the ZU

On the back audio output connections[red/white] To the left is an Orange audio coaxial output and to the right, above the S output connection there is a Yellow video output connection
A number of users have mixed these up
As said I have not had a 05 ZU model for over 2 years but still have a MU1 model. I don?t use it much
The MU and MU1 were much better that the ZU in its operation and setup. Unplugging the unit will not return it to default. There is a default option in setup under General

The component output Red, Green, Blue did not match a number of TV s and that also caused a number of problems with a blank screen
As it was at least 2 to 3yesrs old I assumed that the connections were known and Ok except for the above mix-up, I should know, Assume Nothing.

I mentioned the Wal-Mart thing as I know they they can?t fix it in or out of warranty and have adjusted such a return either free or good price Depending on how hard nosed you can be

As said the ilo 05 is a Cyberhome
The Cyberhome 1600 and 1200 are the same and share the same remote. There is no DV input on the 1200. The ZU was different than the MU and MU1.[ilo 05 or Cyberhome]
I also assumed you had the manual. You might try looking for it or info on the unit but many of the Cyberhome sites have been shut down A number of sites like After Dawn may have some info in past Ilo or Cyberhome issues
I do not have a manual for the ZU model

Good Luck
