Ok, this isn't the first time it's happened, so I know it has to be OS/Driver related.
I have an ASUS K-8N Motherboard, integrated AC'97 audio card. Any time I format and re-install windows (which I do more often than most) my audio works fine. But after a while, the audio completely stops working. Try to launch an audio file (music, movie, etc...) Media player gives me an error basically saying that it cannot find any audio device. When I go to device manager, I have my Legacy drivers showing as working properly, but if I go to "Sounds and Audio Devices" under Control Panel it says that no audio devices can be found.
So I work at best buy, so I grab me a cheap Dynex sound-card and install that. Well, nope, even that card doesn't work. So I try a Creative card. Nope, no sound still. So, now I'm at a stand-still. I have no idea what to do or try now. Any help would be great, guys.
PS: I'm using K-Lite Codec pack and have tried other packs as well, still no success. and I just tried the latest, and original drivers from realtek to get it working, still no avail.
My onboard ac97 card doesn't work either.. useless POS!
the creative card should work nicely (if it works at all.. another brand that just dies silently while claiming to be working fine) but you need to disable the ac97 in the bios first.. then either install the creative drivers from the cd, or hunt for the drivers online.. XP doesn't see CMI devices, and doesn't have the drivers
