I have at hand a great number of DVD movie collections, and some of them are very old. I have to take good care of these old DVD discs. However, exactly last Sunday, when I wanted to watch a movie, one of my favorite DVD movies became eternally unusable as it was over-scratched.
While accepting the fact, it is necessary for me to find an active and effective way to solve the problem. If I had had an extra copy of the disc, I could still enjoy the movie. So I guess whether there exist such programs that backup DVD movies to blank DVD discs so that I can still take the copy out even if the original disc is broken or out of use. I made a Google search for them and my final target was Wondershare DVD Copy for Mac. I only wanted to backup those old DVD movies. What frustrated me was that the majority of them are copyright protected and the other applications I found were not able to copy the DVD movies. However, this program helped me out. It can remove the protection mechanisms for me and I can make another copy of my movies.
Besides, I also have several VIDEO_TS folders that were ripped from several DVD's before. I thought this was able to keep the DVD movies, however, I found this help me nothing but take up much hard drive space. In the end, I burnt these ripped files to DVD's again.
So you see, this Mac application really lent me a helping hand. Now, I don't need to worry about how to save the DVD discs' life even if they are terminally unusable. And I don't need to rip the DVD's to my computer in order to back up them. And for you, I am sure you can find it more useful and helpful. Worth a shot, in one word.

Hi,
I dont know much about this but a google search gave me this:
http://www.mactheripper.org/
which apparently removes copy protection.
I have not tried it but it sounds good from the reviews i read.

What's "high of encryption"?
Don't post while drunk, please.

Some newer DVDs have a stronger type of encryption that isn't "broken" yet but some programs can work around it

After I recommended to my friend the program, he told me to use Mac The Ripper to get the VIDEO_TS files, make an image and then burn the image.
Sounds a good idea!
But what are the detailed steps and which tools do I need?

if you want to Convert video to dvd here is how you do it.
You need these items.
1. a ilife 06 dvd install disk
2. a ilife 08 dvd install disk
3. pacifist
Let me explain:
Imovie 08 only converts dv to dvd by sending the dv file through imovie and into idvd.
Now there is one problem...
Imovie 08 only read's dv files doesn't read any other format.
this is why you need Imovie HD which is a part of the ilife 06 set of applications
So you need to install the imovie 08 application then install using pacifist imovie hd without the library files or imovie 08 won't function.
once imovie hd is installed you can then use imovie hd to convert the avi mpeg file to dv which can be used in imovie 08 all you need to do is select export in imovie hd then select full qaulity and your done you just created a dv file for use in imovie 08.

You can do this using toast titanium. Open toast, select dvd video, drag your video ts file into the box and click the red button at the bottom of the page, that's it. Don't forget to put a blank dvd into the machine before you press the red button. Hope this helps.

I also have some DVD movie collections. I find some DVD copy tools from google, but some tools are not easy to use, so I read some reviews about best DVD copy tools(Win/Mac).I think you can try this method.
It is an active and effective way to solve the problem.

All anyone needs to rip a regular dvd ie: 7.4 Gb is, either mac the ripper or dvd backup and dvd2oneX.
To do it in reverse as in making an mp4 file or quicktime movie into a video TS file to play on a regular dvd all you need is Toast Titanium. Refer to my earlier reply.
I do this all the time and it works very simply
