I have some saves from eboots used under fw 3.03 oe-c, which saved as memcard1.dat and memcard2.dat. Is there any reliable way to convert these to scevmc0.vmp and scevmc1.vmp files to work in 3.80 m33-5? I've googled this thing to death and either some decent info on the subject is nowhere to be found or I'm just using the wrong keywords (probably the latter). If anyone could help me out, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

I thought that the eboot save files were the same for every firmware(i've never been on anything lower than 3.52 M33)... what happens whe you try and use them on 3.80?

Thanks for your reply. The save files are actually not the same for every firmware (3.30 and earlier cfw used memcard1.dat and memcard2.dat files instead of the scevmc0.vmp and scevmc1.vmp that are currently used). I found that if I just dumped the original save game files (memcard1/memcard2.dat) it never recognized them because it was reading the vmp files. If I deleted scevmc0/scevmc1.vmp, then it would just remake them when the game was started. And changing the names of memcard1/memcard2.dat to scevmc0/scevmc1.vmp just did nothing. It didn't remake the files, but it showed no saves (just can't read it, so it shows nothing).

The key isn't moving over just the memcard1/memcard2.dat files, it's copying over EVERYTHING from the savedata folder for that game (/PSP/SAVEDATA/<GAMEID>/) and overwriting the existing files that are created under the new firmware. When you do that, it notifies you when you start the game that your saves are in an old format and asks if you would like to convert them to the new format (.vmp files) but that you will sacrifice using those saves on cfw 3.30 and earlier. You just select 'Yes' and it converts them for you.

Now I feel silly for not having done that from the start but... Oh well, at least the answer is now written down for anyone in the future who may wonder what to do with their old .dat saves... Heheh.
