guys, my cd burner/dvd combo is set on (CS)I'm picking up my new DVD writer tommorow, would like to use both, now do I set the DVD writer to Slave, master, or CS.

I have this problem two, when I hooked up my new burner on the same cable with the old DVD-ROM, the computer would not recognize both, so I had to unhook the old DVD-ROM so the writer can work. -- i am first going to check to see that I have an 80 pin IDE cable..

Do you mean two DVD burners or a burner and a ROM?
In either case it can be done if you have no other option than to put them both on the same cable although your chances of successfully doing "on the fly" copying will be essentially nil.

What do you mean, "chances will be nil". Yes I have the DVD burner from my old computer, and I want to attach it to my DVD burner on my new computer so I then can do disk to disk copies. I tried to connect them by the driver becomes all mishmashed and both drives wont work. When I disconnect one, then all is fine with the other. Do I need to attach them on different cables...? - thx
Basically what I was saying is that disc to disc copying is an invitation for errors whether they are on separate cables or the same cable. It's a whole different ball game than disc to disc with CDs due to the amount of information being transferred.
Many here, myself included, don't do it or recommend it because we don't like deliberately making coasters. The tried and true method of HD to disc works extremely well.
If your heart is set on disc to disc then by all means go for it but be prepared for problems. The drives on separate cables is ideal though not absolutely required.
