There are three links in there about dual booting. But if you're tripplite, aren't you already dual booting? Or were you telling porkie pies... http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/636984/3858880

Right... Whatever floats your boat big boy... Practically no difference from booting from same partition. Only difference lies in the drive numbering, (hd0,0) etc may need to be tweaked. Even an infant should know how to do that... ;)

Just remember that if you want to preserve the MBR of XP drive so that it can still boot on its own, you'll need to change the boot order of the drives.

Is there honestly a point in going through all this boredom again??

Quote:
Results 1 - 10 of about 290,000 for dual boot linux and xp
now call me pedantic, but... I don't see the word "HELP" anywhere in this whole linux area, more a "general discussion" type of thing which says to me "talk about specific things, interesting finds, systems, hardware, drivers, software, new releases and other interesting stuff" rather than just rehashing all the thousands of guides that have been written by experts over the years that explain (sometimes with pictures, and even with video for the totally retarded who will never manage to do anything without the comforting big bad making every single choice for them) everything in the finest detail..

Some people may be happy to get 5000 posts behind them in a matter of weeks by doing just that but, excuse me for having a life, I just find it pointless even answering this kind of idiotic question when google is so very capable.

Also one more lesson learned here..

No prizes for guessing that linux and n00bery are gender neutral, as is the ragging that comes from the FOSS-community towards the downright lazy.. so in closing..

I DON'T GIVE A FLYING **** WHETHER SOIMEBODY IS MALE, FEMALE, UNDECIDED, DEMOCRAT, REPUBLICAN, black, white, yellow with pink pigging spots, animal, vegetable or mineral.. they will get the same response..

tripplite - i edited one of my replies, it seemed funny at the time, but to prove i've got no beef with what shape, colour or gender anyone is, i've edited it out.
As to your original question, try that sticky suggestion; it's really easy, just don't rush to avoid breaking something. Preferably try breaking stuff i mean experimenting only if you have an old spare pc to hand, then it obviously doesn't matter if you trash something;

Noting quite like not being able to get your main or only machine to connect to your router.. crash course in ifconfig and iptables coming up.. especially when your router is home built too, and you don't know which machine is wrong...

Did I seem botherd?.. bothered? me.. look at my face.. am I bothered??

No worries, you were rumbled right off because I have this bad habit of looking at profiles before answering ;)

I can confirm the beta1 of debian lenny (testing) is working well now. The problem with libc6 seems cured.

May come as a surprise.. us seniors and above have a pretty good idea of who we all are ;)

http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/catherinetate/

OOo is slow on lenny.. but the "proper" binaries from OOo.org themselves are great.. it looks like the debian people with their silly licensing structure have mesed something else up. To tell truth, it was only a problem with OO-writer on previously created documents which have been saved on xp or vista, probably using the M$ versions of the .ODT standard. Will test more and report back.. maybe in a new thread for non-distro softwares.

you wud be surprised..... "Lenny" (my full install) is some of the stuff that has been floating around in the ether for a while. If you are running a 64Bit install then it is the way to go (forget Etch, buggy as hell for a stable rls). Even then, if u hav a 32 bits install go Lenny too, Etch is a nightmare. Lenny is more stable than a stable rls (don't ask me why, it just works), but i won't take the jump to Sid for experimental (cos if it f**ks up then i am f**ked).

BTW, OOo runs fine for me, but i have a good amount of RAM on board which probably helps

I can confirm tonite that the slow scrolling with OO writer is purely with documents created and saved .odt format with powerpoint/office on vista and xp. Looks like M$ are not sticking to the agreed standards and are trying to force use of M$ products for "standard" formats.
