I bought a Coby 925 Theater system from the pawn shop. I just got a new TV and cable/DVR. I found out I had to buy an HDMI cable and, I thought, a digital coaxial cable to run the sound into the receiver. I am starting to worry that I can't run the sound into the receiver, at least not digitally. Here is a diagram of the inputs for the receiver.

I think I will be able to do this with RCA cords but not the expensive digital coaxial cable I bought.

I tried the RCA actually and there is sound from the DVR to the Receiver being played only on the center speaker. Here is the TV I bought if it helps.

I have another question. I have a 5.1 Coby system that is 300 watts. I guess this means the speakers are like 70 watts a piece.

If I only replace the receiver does it matter whether the receiver supports more or less watts per channel? What about Ohms, my speakers are 6 Ohms.

Also, is there a reason I would want HDMI over Digital Coaxial or optical audio in a receiver?

Could anyone suggest an inexpensive receiver that has at least one digital audio input and would support my current speakers. A DVD player that supports DVD+R and DVD-R would be the minimum. Should I return the Coby 925 for my 70$ and look into another Theater system that meets my needs?

Just realized this is the wrong forum as it should be in the home theater forum. Sorry about that, but any help much appreciated.

I wish I could delete this thread now. I took the system back to the pawn shop and ended up buying the Sherwood RD-6106 receiver. It is an old receiver but seems to have plenty of connections. 2 Digital Coax out and one Optical out. I paid 110$ for it. It is rated for 8 Ohm speakers and has a jack for a separate sub woofer. I am not sure how to tell what watt each channel takes but I think its a 300 watt system.
