I have been using Maxell DVD-R's to store boxing matches. I burn the fights using Nero 8 as a data disc. Everything was going well but then I used a diiferent brand of disc, Verbatim. I switched because I heard it was better. I just recently burned some avi files to my Verbatim DVD+R dvd's. I completed the burn with no errors and the data verification with no errors as well. But when I put the DVD+R back in my drive, it doesn't read or even recognize there is a disc in the drive.
I put the disc in my brother's PS3, and it recognizes the disc and the files on the disc. I also tried them in my brother's computer and they read there too. So, I know the disc's are good, but I'm not sure why they don't work in my computers drive.
What can I do to fix the problem?
Do I need to finalize the data? If so, I have Nero 8 and I haven't found a finalize option, only the verification check box.
Any help here would help me alot Afterdawn, thanks...
Try selecting the burner properties, choose the 'recording' tab and turn off recording for the drive, then turn it on again.
If that doesn't help, use the hardware manager to uninstall the secondary IDE channel (the burner is probably connected to it) and reboot.

Hey attar, I tried turning off/on the recording and it didn't work, but uninstalling the secondary drive worked. It read the disc's but it has come up with 2 problems.
1- I was not able to view the newly burned discs because this warning came up.
I'm not quite sure what to do in this position.
2- For some reason when I put in a new disc, it skips the autoplay list of options and goes straight to Nero's Data CD add list.

Now my drive is worse than before...
It can read cd-r(imation) and dvd-r(maxell). But it now won't recognize the new Verbatim dvd+r's that I just bought. It was reading and writing to the +r's but now it is not recognizing them....
This sucks, but I really appreciate your help here...

I'm not exactly sure... Also, that link to mircosoft did nothing to my computer apparently. I went to undo what it did and it said it didn't do anything. My cd/dvd drive had no upper or lower filters. But my disc drive had an upperfilter...
Here is my burners name: TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-L532A
You can check your version by running Nero Info tool.
Alternately you can run IMGBurn, 'Tools' 'Write' 'Drive' 'Check Firmware Updates'.
It will list the current version and offer to check for updated versions.

Last time I did a complete system restore, my recording drive worked perfectly. Then I guess I messed it up by switching media and different programs.
Do you think if I did another system restore, my drive would work as it did before.
After experimenting with different programs, I feel I have all that I need. So, I wouldn't run the risk of messing it up again.
I glad you post here, attar.
Also, I tried a maxell dvd-lc lens cleaner on my drive. I just know noticed that it said it wasn't supposed to be used on laptop computers. This was a while ago though. My drive was working after it, but my question was why is it not supposed to be used in laptop computers?
