Hi guys, just a quick question. Probably a silly one but i know nothing about technology lol. Anyways i just got a PS3 which obviously supports blue-ray...my question is...in order to watch blue ray movies do you NEED to have a HDMI connection or can you use components?

I feel a little different about that... My opinion is HDMI annihalates component on a decent TV. Especially when it comes to gaming and CGI.
euro2069, at this point in time you do not need a HDMI cable to view Blu-ray in 1080p. When HDCP kicks in then you will need a HDMI cable.
However, if your TV supports HDMI you might as well buy a HDMI cable. Component cables are not supplied with the PS3, so you would have to buy one anyway. My thoughts are you would be best off purchasing a HDMI cable instead.
I had always heard that HDMI is of the same quality of Component, the only benefit is that the audio is included in the cable, and therefore more convenient.

That is not true at all. HDMI is a pure digital connection (both digital video & audio). Component is an analog video conection. However, it is true that component offers the best connection out of the analog family.
