I have a laptop, 60 gig HD - currently 22 gig free space.
I have partition magic - full version.
My drive is currently not partitioned, and is starting to run slow. Ive done the usual clean up business - but wonder if i should partition my laptop.
If you think it will help in run faster - what is the best option?
Should i create a partition of ~15 gig and move all my doc's files to that. Would that improve speed?
or should in put a new xp on the new partition?
Im not sure whats the best way, i guess i aim in the long run to have all my files (windows xp) in one section so it boots fast, and have another partition section for files and programs. Then when it runs slow i can just re install windows on the xp partition without re installing all the programs and setting which takes hours.
partition's only make the hard drive more convenient for backing up and restoring.
I always make 2 partitions on all my hard drives, the first partition is always 20gb (for system files) second partition I use the entire remaining space (data). Partitioning won't make the hard drive faster it just makes it more convenient in that I can install a new os on the 20gb partition without touching the data partition (and possibley overwriting important data.)
If your computer is beganing to slowdown, it's probably cause by some sort of antispyware program that has to analyze every stream of data that needs to write to system files.
One program that you might want to try out the demo is ultimate defrag, I have it installed in my computer. It relocates your files to the inner or outer sections of the hard drive so they can be access much quicker.
instead of antispyware program that will slow your computer down, use the free "returnil" it actually speeds up your computer and will defeat all known antispyware/virus. I have it installed on all my computers and it works very well.
If you are going to partition your current hard drive, make sure you make an image backup of your c: partition. You can use the trial versions of true image or paragon drive backup to do a backup. I have had 2 incidents of my hard drive getting corrupted when I have tried to partition my working hard drive. The partitioning software would freeze during the partitioning operation and I was unable to recover from it.
