I,ve got a 2 disk set of an Irish TV series called "Proof" that I borrowed to burn to DVD-r. Total of 4 episodes 2 to a disk.
Originals now return to my friend.
Steps taken were as follows
Both DVDs ripped to h/d with no problems using DVDdecrypter and AnyDVD.
Checked quality, playback and control(i.e menu selection) in PowerDVD
all ok.
On completion of burning played both disks in PowerDVD on PC, again both play flawlessly.
Then tried to play both disks in all 3 of my standalone units at home
a Philips, a Liteon and my trustworthy Yamada DVX-6600 which has never failed to read and play anything I have ever burned in the past
what I found was to me strange to say the least, Disk 2 played fine in all 3 standalone units, whilst Disk 1 would play the intro up to the
point where the menu selection screen should appear, (a total of 22 seconds) and then would simply stop on a blank screen.
All the stand alone unit showed the same LED information at this stop point.
I.E. DVD inserted and selected
01 Chapter ready
Timer shows 0:00
So can anyone enlighten me as to what I may have done wrong or missed
here. (Did try fixVTS but got same results)
Has anybody else come acroos this type of problem before? and any possible fixes
Yes, I have come across it twice, and definitely it was no encryption problem(old discs). It only happened when I ripped the disc and no re-encoding was done, I didn't try any FixvtS fix, but instead I just cut the first seconds that were looping. It was easy, as it was just main movie.
In your case, since is an episode disc, you probably want to retain the menu. I would use VobBlanker to blank the portion at the begining. Or maybe just re-encoding with DVD Shrink would fix it(if it needs no compression, it should take a few minutes). This would be the simplest fix.
