My comptuer light comes on, but the only thing that happens is the cd-rw light blinks. The harddrive doesn't spin up either. The hardrive works because I got a friend to test the harddrive. I have XP on a disk anyway. Is there a bios reset disk. I tried EVERY F_ Key. None work!

have you tried resetting the bios? two ways of doing so... either removing the battery on the motherboard for about 5 minutes or by changing the jumper?

yes... make sure the power is unplugged, that your always touching the metal case, and take the battery out for like 5-10 minutes... it will reset the bios and maybe help you out... no promises though

it usually is a little tough to get out... normally it has like a metal clip over it that you have to bend slightly out of the way... i guess you can try prying it a little bit... just be careful don't need anything slipping or breaking...

OK.. when the first screen with the system stuff comes up there will be some instruction to "press del to enter setup".. or maybe F2 or some other key.. Do that which will bring you into the hardware setup screens.. and then look for "boot sequence".. set it to boot from cd ;)

If the computer was improperly shutdown before, the hard drive might have got corrupted. to fix this you need to run the checkdisk\f on the hard drive. This will fix most minor corruption problems.
If you where doing any partitioning/restoration on the hard drive before you had problems, that might have cause problems in the registry. Drive letter problems will cause windows to hang/reboot at the logon screen.
You can check your drive letters with the "paragon justboot corrector" demo. It's an ISO file you burn to a bootcd. It'll bootup the computer and read the registry from a non-booting hard drive. (note the demo is 2 years old and doesn't work on all the latest computers). the newest version of boot corrector is in "paragon partition manager ver.10" but it doesn't have a demo.

I have an IBM that won't boot, but i have another hardrive. Is there a way to connect the 1gb and 10gb at once so the 1gb is c: and the 10gb is d: (or another letter) so i can format the 10gb using the 1gb and copy the windows files over?

Put the one that needs to be formatted in an external enclosure, hook it up to the PC via USB. Boot up the comp, go to My Computer, right click on the drive you want formatted, click format.
OR
If the hard drive is in the computer, insert the Windows XP disc, and delete the partition(s) on it.

Wait, is that 2 hard drives or 1 hard drive and 2 partitions?

2 hardrives. I need to hook them both up because the one gb has xp on it, but the 10gb is blank. They're both internal and I want them hooked at the same time so I can copy the xp files over.
My question is:
How do you set 1 hardrive to be a slave and the other a master!

Oh dude, trust me, leave that to someone who knows what they're doing. Unless you can find a guide with pictures and such, don;t go inside your comp. Probably raise another 10 probs for you.
But if you just wanna drag files over, open My Computer, go to the 10gb, then open another My Computer, navigate your way around and drag files over. Haven't you tried that?
Or did you want the system files as well? In that case you would have to back up the hard drive, not just copy files.
