Geting Error 16 without ever modding! HELP!

Ok, I've been all over various forums (including this one) for months, and can only find solutions for those who modded.
I got my Xbox used, but none of the screws were exposed and all stickers were undamaged. Halo and Halo 2 never worked well to begin with but all other games (DOAU and U2, Phantom Dust, Fable, Crimson Skies) worked fine. Except for Halo and H2 refusing to be recognized by the drive 80% of the time, I never had a problem.
Well, one day I went to turn on the Xbox and got an error message ( think it was 21 but I can't remember right) Wel, I could still load games,, but I couldn't leave well enough alone until I got one of those Memory things (note my "expert" lingo XD) that plug into the controller, so I unplugged the Xbox and figured it would go away. Now I have a, you guessed it, Error 16.
I've tried using xboxhdm, but no matter what I try, or how many eeprom files I download and use, it won't unlock the damed Xbox, so I can't restore the c: partition!
Is there ANYTHING I can do/download that will fix this, or jsut plain skip that infernal clock set!?! If I could jsut load games long enough to save the data on a Controller Memory Thingy. If I can do that, then I won't mind jsut scrapping this piece of junk and getting a new Xbox, but if there's even the slightest chance (0.00001% or more)then I will NOT give up my game saves only to spend weeks on end earning them back again!
I want to keep my saved data. I REALLY don't want to go and spend all that time playing the games jsut to get back to what I had.
Please help. I'm willing an ready to try almost anything, but I'm brook so I can't go out an buy any mod chips, and I don't have any friends with modded boxes.

Perhaps you can find someone with a chipped xbox that you could send your hard drive and a memory card to inorder to get the saves off of the hard drive?

Unfortunately I don't know anyone with a chipped 'box, and I don't trust people I don't know. I've heard though, that there were ways to skip the clock check. If I could do that...

Thank you very much, but nothing helped. Neither Xplorer or FATXplorer wer able to read the drive, even after Device Manager found it. Thank you, but I guess I'll just have to get a new 'box and replay all my games. But thank you for trying.

Pull ide cable out of dvd drive.. boot.. wait for error 12 then hotswap ;)

I did that. And Device Manager would see the drive and I'd try using Xplorer and FATXplorer, but they didn't like me. I think my 'box is fried. I already have cash set aside for a new one. well, another used one really. The thing that sucked most was that I was never able to get any save files on to an external memory unit before the clock set error.
Is there any way to simply bypass the clockset, without a second hard drive?
What would happen if I used a regular computer HDD while turning on the Xbox? Would that get me past the clock set, or (seeing as there's no MS Dash file) jsut waste time and possibly kill my hard drive...

If they play these games I normally save a lot of time and heartache by fitting a solderless chip. Then install just a modded dash, retrieve saves/soundtracks and eeprom data... either restore the dash back to stock, fit a new larger drive or... it depends what the customer wants TBH.
There is a knack to hotswapping, and some pc's just refuse to play.

Try changing the jumper on the Xbox HDD to 'Master' prior to hotswapping, this has been known to fix the detection error!
Also, try other versions of Xplorer360.
Xplorer360 is just a pain in the ass, but it will load eventually and will fix your issue!

The jumper issue was mentioned and I tried the Jumper on all 4 sets and with every version of Xplorer360 in that zip file, but noething worked. And now i can't find the damn jumper. But if I have to,I can use another jumper from an old broken had drive. Althouhg, I'm convinced that my Xbox was possessed! XD I'm half expecting the girl from The Ring to come out next time I try to turn it on! XD Vut I thank you all for the time and effort put towards this. Thank you very much.
