After a transformer blow, the dell e310 computer no longer will power on. It was plugged into a power surge protector but that did little good. I changed the computer's power supply but that did no good. The little green light on the motherboard is the only thing that works.I press the power button and nothing(no booting, no fans turning, no beeps) Can I assume the motherboard is dead? I am thinking about replacing the motherboard but I am not sure if the cpu is dead. Which brings me to my question: Do you think the cpu is shot? Thanks.

Your guess is as good as anyone elses.

I got hit with a power surge and blew my TV & the NIC card in my computer. Second time it did in a modem and something else that I cant remember. The lastest time it blew a stick of ram, a modem, a power supply, and CD writer.

Pacific and Atlantic Ocean are too close together here in texas so our power grid is built cheap because they know the storms will knock it out all the time. We get alot of lightling hits and power surges from cheap equipment.

Best thing you ca do to test the processor is ebay a MB or buy one and maybe return it. You'll have to trouble shoot each and every component. Start with power supply MB RAM Harddrive then start adding components one at a time testing to make sure all is stable before adding to test another component.

What hurts is when you have a screwed up component that takes a day or two to show up it's defectiveness.

Good Luck

disconnect all cables to the drives. remove all cards & ram except for a videocard if don't have an onboard 1 & 1 stick of ram. check the silver flat topped cans on the motherboard which are capacitors that they are not domed or leaking brown stuff.

I removed everything and no power. I replaced one piece at a time and tried the power after each piece was reinstalled, nothing happened. The silverflat topped cans looked ok. I guess it is time for a new motherboard. Thanks for your input ddp.
