Is there any reason my laptop should be running slow?
I have 2 gigs of ram and 120g hd?

The start up is slow as well as the shut down and programs starting up.

Defreg once a week, no virus, and no idea on why there is such a speed reduction.

Any ideas on why this is??

Mabey its failing hardware if its old, you running aero, that can slow it down if you have a graphics card which is compadible but not very good, i say, install XP and wait for SP1 on vista

What CPU do you have?, and what version of vista are you running? There shouldn't need to defrag the hdd so often, when did the speed reduction come into play? did you update or install any new software?

I asked about the cpu usage because I saw this 4 weeks ago.. It was malware, but it couldn't be removed because it had hidden itself and changed it's permissions so even administrator couldn't remove the damn thing.
Ended up doing a full system restore which fixed it.

Dude, do you know what kinda malware it was? I had the prob once, Explorer was taking up 90%+ CPU all the time, even if I killed off al other process's.

CPU usuage is between 20 & 30%.
New HP lap top with 2gb ram and is showing only one when the system is checked.
Running Vista 32.

Should a switch to XP just be worth it?
