I am using utorrent and my ports arnt open. I have read every single guide out thier but it never works. I have tried portforward.com and i have followed exactly what they say but in the end my internet stops working. So does all the other guides i tried. Can someone please tell me how to port forward so i can get better download speeds. I have tried port forwarding for a very long time but never works for me. My router is NETGEAR WGT624v3.

Thanks

Is setting a static ip address killing the internet, that will happen if the DNS Server and Default Gateway show the same and are used, you'll have to get your DNS Servers info elsewhere than ipconfig/all. Use a port that is over 10,000 and enable Protocol Encryption: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/395674 Check this list of ISP's that throttle: http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/Bad_ISPs If you don't see it, there are more, maybe someone will know. Check for your modem at Port Forward, it may contain a Firewall too and clear utorrent through any Firewall including Windows.

Is this the guide you used: http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm Just make sure at ipconfig/all in Command Prompt, the DNS Server doesn't match the Default Gateway, just post back if they are and you can't find them and I'll give you a couple to use . This info is in the guide but easy to miss. Also, ensure you're entering the info in the correct connection at Network Connections. The guide explains this also.

I just looked at the ipconfig/all the DNS server and the default gateway is the same.

Okay, you can find them within your router or from your ISP (wouldn't hold my breath on that one). Seen numerous posts regarding OpenDNS (free) and not one bad word, have also used them myself: http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=150520 You'll find them at the link provided in the post or they're in the post itself. After you forward your router, uncheck randomize port at options>preferences>connection in utorrent.

Ok i went to that website and setup my DNS. Now this time i set it up the internet works fine even after setting up the static ip. Then i forwarded the utorrent and it still has that yellow triangle with the exclamation mark. And when i went to see if the port is open it said ERROR it does not seem to be open. Why is that?

Check your ip address at ipconfig/all to make sure that is the address you forwarded to (not hard to enter a number wrong) and also that you are using the correct port. You can try enabling UPnP temperarily to see if it makes any difference and using a port over 50,000. Possible your ISP just started throttling, what is it? Are you using Vista by any chance, my impression is that's it's very hit or miss with torrents? Don't forget any firewall and checking on your modem.

I entered the exact number that the port forward website told me. So first i clicked on the setting up static ip and read the instruction. At the bottem where it told me to put my default gatway and my current ip address and i did. Then i clicked find static ip address and it gave me all these adresses. So i choose the first one and entered that ip address my network connections at that internet protocol property thing and i entered the static adress in the part for my ip adress like the instructions told me then i went back to the other page where it teach you to forward and in the box where it said "Please enter the static ip you want to forward to:" i entered the last 3 numbers of my static ip adress i used then i went to my router website then clicked on port forward and i entered exaclty what the information it told me at the port forward website into the router website. Oh my port that i used is 23665 and yes im using vista.

Once you've set a static ip address, you're done with that. Probably not your issue but go to start>run, type in cmd in the box that pops up, select ok. In the black Command prompt box, type ipconfig/all and select enter. Is the ip address you see there the one you set static and entered correctly in your router? Type exit and hit enter to leave. Also never used it but doesn't Vista use the Windows firewall, if it does, is utorrent an exception? Should see it at start>control panel>Windows firewall>exceptions or start>control panel>security center>?Windows firewall>exceptions. If not, add it. Edit: connect directly to your modem, you should see a green light at the speed guide port check then, is it?. Still check the firewall first.

If you have Norton Internet Security 2006, it is also necessary to deselect "Stealth blocked ports" in "Advanced security settings" on the NIS Firewall options page.
I don't know if this applies to more recent NIS.

In my router webpage on the part where it sais Internet IP Address the are 2 check boxes one is Get dynamically from ISP and the other is use static IP address. So i tried the static ip address and i enter the ip adrees, IP Subnet Mask and Gateway IP Address. I used the what i typed in the Internet Protocol Properties page in my network connections. When i apply it in the router webpage the internet stops working.

Not sure where you are, the guide doesn't show that that I see. All you need to adjust in your router are the settngs in the guide.

I still think this relates to your version of Vista. Won't help to open ports but should help speed. Have you done a speed test and set your upload rate at options>speed guide>connection type? You choose the closest speed to yours in kb's (kilobits)(most speedtests are) and utorrent automatically sets it to the proper setting in kB's (kilobytes) for you. Go to Port Forward or Google your modem to see if it has a firewall.

Not your router, your modem. The box plugging into your router, there should be a sticker or something on it somewhere. Did you continue with the port forwarding on your router after setting your static address, once you have, you're done with your router.

No clue then. Edit: if you can, plug your computer directly into the modem. If that works, port forwarding in the router isn't set properly.
