Motorola Q from versizon, can it be switched to US cellular?

Of course US cellular says no but are they telling the truth? They say it's a software difference that can't be changed. All software can be changed, it's just a matter of whether someone has taken the time to do it right?

I have a older Q (not even sure how to tell which version) that was on Verizon (when the Q first came out) and I have USC service. I don't have any way to buy a new phone and the old one is dying. Please help if you can.
