Hi

I'm using BitComet with a ADSL Modem so I have a static IP.
Speed of Internet - 6.5 Mbs.

I am only getting downloads speeds of 30 - 50 Kbs which is very disappointing but whe I run BitComet I get the message
"BitComet has detected that my current setting of Half open TCP Connection Limitation is too small"

I don't know what this means or how to fix it?

Also, I'm using windows firewall with BitComet as an exception but I think it may be blocking me getting the higher speeds.

I have never tried port forwarding and have absolutely no idea what it is or what to do?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

Unless you set your address static, it's dynamic and will eventually change but that's fine with just a modem. Have a look at this: http://torrentfreak.com/optimize-your-bittorrent-download-speed/ Could be your modem uses a firewall or your ISP throttles torrents, check both: http://www.portforward.com/english/route...routerindex.htm (modem) and http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/Bad_ISPs (ISP). Use a port in BitComet over 10,000 that isn't the default and Protocol Encryption: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/395674 Unless your modem does have a firewall, you won't need to port forward, setting BC as an exception in Windows firewall is fine and your speeds are probably a result of using a public site and normal once you get BC cleared.

Please do yourself a favour and get a modern p2p application that doesn't spray packets and connections information all over the place, and that enables use of peer masking and encryption software..

Your slow speeds are probably down to the majority of trackers having banned that application as insecure

Hi

Thanks for the info.

I managed to sort my TCP Connections up to 50.

Varnull - I have tried so many different P2P Programs including Azereus, BitTornado, BitLord, UTorrent and none of them had as good speeds I am getting with BitComet.

What other ones do you suggest?

i suggest bitcomet .70, i find it to be better then any of the recent releases:)
http://www.tacktech.com/news.cfm?subtype=Tech&nid=11112
many people cant get the recent ones to work all that well, but find great results with .70:),
uninstall the recent one and install .70, or just install v7 in another directory

try randomizing your port a few times and see if that helps:D

also open a port...speeds/stability goes through the roof:)

use the link above to open the port with your bittorent client

both links get the same result, however the one i posted above only has instructions on how to open the port with a linksys system, you need to go to portforward.com for specific instructions with your setup
