Hello, this is my first HTPC post! I was thinking about building a HTPC since I don't use my PC for gaming anymore, and I have a few questions.

First of all, my desired setup:
CPU: : Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 @ 1,8GHz
Mobo : ABIT Fatal1ty F-I90HD (HDMI, 1080i)
Optical : Samsung SN-T082L/BEBM DVD+/- RW LS SLOT-IN (Slim IDE)
HDD : WD Caviar SE 120GT (SATA II, 3.5")
RAM : 2GB 667DDR2
GPU : ATI Radeon X1250 (Integrated)
PSU : Origen 320W MicroATX
Case : Hopefully custom

OS : Windows XP MCE (or HTPC Linux distro)
TV card : Maybe?

This setup would cost me about 150-250? since I already have processor and RAM. My first concern: Can the CPU handle H264 encoded HD rips at full HD resolution?

Then, cooling issue: What kind of CPU cooler should I get (I'm trying to build a really small case) and would I need an extra case fan to blow cool air inside? And insted of HDD (which gets pretty hot while running) is it possible to boot OS from a memory card? I'm planning to use an external HDD to store my media anyways.

Finally, is it possible to start computer with a remote control/keyboard? (Like Wii or Xbox 360)
