Good afternoon,

i'm planning on upgrading my pc myself. My question is if i upgraded my HDD from 80G to 500G, added more stick Mem, like 2G worth, also, would i be able to change the cpu to a Dual Core or is it easier to just buy a new computer with all the stuff in it? I'm also interested in buying a lightscribe drive.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Changing the hard drive is easy (though I'd only recommend buying S-ATA drives nowadays). Changing the RAM is also easy, but is only really worth it if your system uses DDR2, DDR1 is more expensive and older technology. Upgrading your CPU is a little more difficult, and can only be done if you have a relatively recent motherboard. If your PC is older tech, you should replace the CPU, Motherboard, RAM, and probably the power supply as well. It's still far better to DIY PCs than buy new ones pre-built though.

Best bet is to go to the homepage of your motherboard site to see if you can install a duel core cpu most updated motherboards will allow you to do so with maybe a bios update. From past experience doing this first is always better than buyng a new mobo when not always needed.By the way Duel core is not all it lives up to be and if you have a good single core system no need for dual core.
