I have an aspire psu of 500 watts, using a two 4 pin to pci-e converter. Video card is a BFG 7950 512mb OC. Patriot 1gb memory 400mh. A 3.0 cpu amd socket 939. And a dfi lanparty nf4 UT SLI-DR Expert motherboard. I have double and triple check the connections and when I hit the power button, all the lights/fans come on, and there are no beeps. The "diagnostic leds" state that it has detected the vga the dram and the cpu but it stops at three leds lighting up. All suggestions are appreciated. It has been a very frustrating day...

-6-core 3.2 AMD, 12gb DDR3, Geforce femi 560ti, Running Win7 x64

Firstly, Aspire PSUs are terrible. Even if the PSU isn't at fault, you should have it replaced as many of them are prone to destroying PC components oe even catching fire.
The DFI Lanparty nF4 UT boards are VERY sensitive to power connections, once you've had the PSU replaced, make sure you connect all the extra cables to the board, the ATX, 4-pin CPU connector, and the additional Molex and 4-pin 'floppy drive power' connectors. All 4 are required for DFI NF4 boards I believe.

Thank you very much, I have an update. I got my video now b/c the jumper settings for the bios clear was clear and not normal :( I know stupid mistake... Anyways, everything has power except for the hard drive and the dvd drive, and sometimes I can get power to one or the other but not both... I am guessing this is a power supply problem as you have said. I am going to get a 650 antec psu from best buy tonight. Are there any other name brands you would suggest or is something else the culprit?

Even if something else is the culprit, you should still be replacing the PSU. The Antec Truepower units are decent, though I typically recommend Corsair units myself.

if both the hd & dvd drive are on the same ide cable then check the jumpers on those 2 drives as should be master & slave. having both jumpered the same could cause that problem as they are conflicting with each other.

It actually isnt my pc, its a friends, im selling my old parts to him and we are putting it in his case. I went out and bought a 650 watt bfg tech psu. I just installed it and that was the problem, both hd and dvd drives are running and detected. I replaced everything in his computer except his dvd drive and his hard drive so I am guessing i need to do a reformat. I tried booting from the hard drive and i just get a blank screen. They were on two different ide cables, ill be more specific next time. Thanks

the problem is that the motherboard has changed so that the xp on his hd has barfed. do a fresh install.
